Job overview

The role of Vice Principal (Primary College) is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate. The role will provide opportunities for personal growth and professional development. There will be high expectations around the quality assurance of the curriculum and teaching and learning, monitoring safeguarding and supporting the very complex admissions process of the academy. Whilst being responsible for the Primary Phase of education this role will also share overarching key responsibilities across the whole academy. We expect the successful candidate to lead their team by example through coaching, mentoring and demonstrating exemplary practice.

Milestone has a main site and four satellite provisions connected to four of the Leigh Academy Trust mainstream academies. Heads of College will be responsible for maintaining a high profile at these settings and extending quality assurance activities across these sites, developing inclusive links with the main site and the mainstream settings.

The academy is currently involved in an exciting curriculum development project in partnership with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). The aim of the project is to develop a world class curriculum for pupils with SEND that is in line with the principles, standards and ethos of the IB PYP. The successful candidate will need to be confident and passionate about driving this agenda.

Welcome to Milestone Academy, part of Leigh Academies Trust. We are a proud school serving students aged 2-19 with Special Educational Needs. Each day our students bring their own unique energy into their school. In turn we ensure that they receive a high quality educational provision delivered through the immensely capable and effective hands of our staff.

The site itself presents a safe and welcoming environment with students placed in one of four settings:

  • Nursery
  • Primary
  • Secondary: Key Stage 3 and 14-19 years

We recognise that adopting a personalised approach is a critical key for each student’s development. Therefore we invest a significant amount of time assessing the student’s needs – an assessment that ensures we respond in the most specific manner. This approach is repeated throughout their time with us.

Personal independence is quite rightly an aim for each of our students. Therefore, in and out of classrooms we pride ourselves in adopting an approach that accelerates the development of life skills and enhances communication techniques. In parallel, we ensure that each student is taught the appropriate national curriculum subjects, as well as literacy and numeracy skills.

We may well be one of the largest schools of its type in England but rest assured that each student is extremely well known by the adults in their class. The appropriate mix of safety, care and challenge is delivered to each student, every single day that they attend Milestone Academy.

Principal: Sarah Goosani
