Job overview

GUERNSEY FEDERATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS
LES BEAUCAMPS HIGH SCHOOL

Head of Computing and New Technologies

Required from 1st September 2015

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and well-qualified specialist graduate teacher with the vision to lead and take responsibility for the work of the Computing department, to lead on the development of new technologies in teaching and learning of all subject areas across the school, whilst teaching at KS3 and KS4. Furthermore, you will make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the school and to the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools.

This is an excellent opportunity to not only develop the ICT department and introduce the teaching of Computing across KS3 for the first time from September 2015, but to have a whole school impact. The role is unique as it is not just department-based and will involve supporting and enabling teachers to improve their classroom practice and to develop the use of new technologies in the classroom. There will be significant opportunities to have input into the school’s strategic improvement plan and whole school Literacy Policy, which will include digital literacy as a key element.

The three island 11-16 High Schools, the Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre (11-18), and St Anne’s School in Alderney work in a federated model of partnership working led by the Director of Education.

Employed by the States of Guernsey and based at Les Beaucamps High School, you will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across Key Stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that you will engage in cross-school initiatives which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the Education Service.

You will lead by example and be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning, have first class communication skills and the ability to maintain productive relationships with staff. You will have the ability to model good practice and will be expected to have contribution and impact upon school improvement, particularly at middle manager level. With a proven track record in enabling learners to make excellent progress, you will demonstrate the determination to make a difference to the lives of young people.

This position would suit someone who is keen to progress their career and is interested in pursuing a senior leadership role in the future.

The school may move to a Faculty structure in the future in line with the development of the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools.

This post carries a five-year housing licence and you can expect to:

  • Work in a well resourced school that follows an innovative Bailiwick curriculum based on the English National Curriculum and which has favourable PTRs;
  • Be part of a leading development of ICT in education and be allocated a personal laptop;
  • Receive a generous relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;
  • Enjoy the benefits of more generous tax allowances on an island with no VAT.

Salary will be in accordance with the Guernsey Main Professional Scale £28,534 - £40,972 per annum, plus the Management Allowance Level 3 payment of £8,173 per annum. There is also an Upper Pay Scale (£43,271 - £46,024 per annum) for teachers who have successfully gone through the Threshold Assessment.
