Job overview

We are currently looking for an exceptional Head of Department to lead and grow our Lower Academy Science Department from September 2015.

You will join and develop a forward-thinking and creative collegiate team who have a wide range of teaching and technician experience across all science disciplines.

This role will be teaching at KS3 level however the Head of Department will work closely with their counterpart on our Upper Academy therefore knowledge of KS4/KS5 would be an advantage. In addition, strong links with our strong links to local primary schools could enable an interested candidate opportunities to teach science at KS2 also.

The Basildon Academies are two state of the art Academies based in Essex, just 35 minutes from London. The Lower Academy specialises in the teaching of our students aged 11-14 whilst the Upper Academy specialises in our 14-19 year old student populations. The Academies are approximately 1 mile apart.

This role will be based at the Lower Academy.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an experienced Head or Deputy Head of Science
  • Be able to consistently demonstrate ‘good’ lessons throughout all key stages
  • Have experience of raising attainment
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have a genuine belief in the potential of every child
  • Have high expectations for all pupils
  • Have previous experience of developing others
  • Have a flexible ‘can do’ attitude
  • Be a strong team player

Hold full QTS (Unfortunately this role is not suitable for NQT’s)

Basildon Upper Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, 14-19 academy with sixth form, situated in Basildon in Essex. Along with the Basildon Lower Academy, it forms The Basildon Academies Trust. The academies share an executive principal, but each academy has its own leadership with a head of academy. There are 576 students on the secondary school’s roll, 207 students of whom are enrolled on 16 to 19 study programmes.
