Coombe Wood School is seeking an innovative Subject Lead of Design & Technology to lead our Design & Technology curriculum. Be part of a strong Creative Arts team dedicated to providing a broad range of Design & Technology specialisms including Product Design, Graphics, Textiles and Food & Nutrition.

Exciting extra-curricular opportunities and development towards Level Design & Technology courses await you! We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual for the position of Subject Lead of Design & Technology.

As the leader of Design & Technology at our secondary school, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing the school's D&T curriculum, fostering a passion for creativity, design thinking and innovation and ensuring the overall excellence of Design & Technology education.

Leading and co-ordinating activities relating to leading D&T, to include:

1. To oversee the day to day running of Design & Technology and promote excellent teaching so that all students achieve their potential within an atmosphere in which students feel challenged, valued and secure.

2. Developing, monitoring, reviewing, evaluating effectiveness of and reporting on policy, action plans and practice.

3. Planning and managing associated resources/teaching materials, teaching programmes, courses of study, methods of teaching and progress.

4. To be responsible for securing the highest standards of student achievement, through monitoring and evaluation of student progress and setting targets for improvement.

5. To lead and support staff who deliver Design & Technology lessons including our D&T Technician

6. To lead, develop and enhance the teaching practice of others in Design & Technology by providing CPD and evaluating, supporting, guiding and target setting.

7. Support the development of the Inclusive and Nurturing Schools programme and liaise with colleagues to promote equality of opportunity and diversity effectively.

Our Creative Arts Department

The Creative Arts Department comprises specialist teachers in Art, Graphic Design, Photography, Design & Technology, Textiles and Food & Nutrition. Our brand new facilities include a kiln room, dark room, workshop and large specialist classrooms for each creative subject. Design & Technology is well resourced with an excellent range of CAD/CAM facilities that includes a laser cutter, CNC router and milling machine and 3D Printers as well as Adobe Creative Cloud.

We are an incredibly visible department with regular trips and competitions to extend and develop our students' passion for all aspects of Art and Design & Technology outside of the classroom. There are also opportunities to play a crucial role in developing our co-curricular programme and future A Levels in Product Design/3D Design.

The Creative Arts Department provides the opportunity to work with a well-qualified, experienced and supportive team who are keen to share good practice and skills to ensure we have the biggest impact on the learning of our students. This includes opportunities for departmental CPD across a wide range of Art and Design & Technology specialisms. 

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and passionate Subject Lead of Design & Technology who can teach GCSE Design & Technology as well as Key Stage 3.

The school is situated opposite Lloyd Park in South Croydon, with an excellent Tramlink service to and from East Croydon station (just 5 minutes journey-time away) and a short walk from several bus routes. Over £35 million has been invested in our state-of-the-art school, including enhanced sports and performing arts facilities, comprising a competition-sized sports hall, a full-size 3G artificial surface, sprung dance floor studios, music rooms and a recording studio.

This fully inclusive secondary co-educational school was established in 2018 to meet an urgent rising local demand. 

The site of our new building and extensive grounds is opposite Lloyd Park in South Croydon, with an excellent Tramlink service to and from East Croydon station (just 5-minute journey-time away,) and a short walk from several bus routes. 

Our £35 million building and facilities offer specialist teaching spaces for all subjects including Music, Dance, Drama, Science, Design Technology and Art.
