The Role:

As a key member of The British School Warsaw’s Extended Senior Leadership team the Head of EYFS will be accountable for supporting the Primary School team in offering leadership, inspiration and guidance through strategic planning and management of day to day routines at the Dabrowskiego EYFS Centre

Reporting to the Head of Primary School, you will have responsibility, as the Head of EYFS, to provide professional leadership and ensure that the Centre delivers the highest standards of care and education for all students in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The Person:

As the Head of EYFS you will need to hold a Qualified Teacher Status with a minimum of 5 – 7 years of teaching experience, with an in-depth knowledge of Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and associated assessment methods, with up to date knowledge of curriculum developments. You will also have a sound working knowledge of Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum along with up to date knowledge of curriculum developments.

With proven middle or senior leadership and people management skills along with a management background in educational institutions you will be passionate about delivering quality education.  You will be an excellent communicator, who gets on well with colleagues, students, parents, technology and change.  Amongst other things, you will be well organised, have a good sense of humour and will be driven by wanting to improve quality and develop the school.

In fulfilling the requirements of the post, the teacher will demonstrate essential professional characteristics, and in particular will:

  • Demonstrate analytical thinking
  • Improve the quality of pupils' learning, contribute to the school improvement / development planning and promote the learning priorities of the school development plan

Some key tasks and responsibilities of the post will include:

Work closely with the Head of Primary to ensure that the school vision and strategic plan are effective and pertinent to the school's overall development. They should be clearly articulated, shared, understood and acted upon effectively by all.

  • Secure high quality education for all pupils, ensuring improved standards of learning and achievement and promoting the Mission and Vision of the school.
  • Demonstrate sound experience in effectively dealing with students' academic and behavioural needs, implementing pastoral care policies and aiding students to achieve their greatest potential.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the school by supporting the Head of Primary School and other members of the Senior Management team in developing a positive working relationship with and between all staff.
  • Demonstrate initiative, ideas and a flexible, good humoured approach to leadership and teamwork.
  • Observe and give feedback on teaching, attend meetings, oversee the completion of planning and assist the Head of Primary School to ensure that curriculum delivery and assessment are reflective of the high standards expected at The British School Warsaw.
  • To take a leading role in supporting the Primary Team in managing systems for reporting to parents on student progress, academic and social, including management of parent consultation sessions, parent seminars and events for students in the primary school.
  • To ensure the students tracking systems are administered efficiently and used effectively to raise achievement.
  • To undertake Performance Management Reviews for designated staff and to assist with the performance review process for other staff as required.
  • Help with the production and implementation of all school policies, procedures and documentation including, but not limited to, teaching, learning and assessment, staff welfare and resources.
    •Being able to provide effective teacher training and guidance is essential.
    •Support all faculty members, ensure the availability of resources, delegate work to the entire staff and ensure that their progress is being monitored and there is a system of accountability in place.
    •Possess virtues such as vision and discretion; they should inspire trust; they must be able to deal with highly complex and confidential matters; and, at the same time, be able to make clear, well balanced decisions.

Aspects of the Role:

1.School Leadership

  • To lead the Early Years Leadership Team.
  • To lead the strategic development of The British School Warsaw Early Years Centre following the School Improvement and Development Plan.
  • Motivate and lead a team of Early Years staff in the delivery of best possible practice to meet the needs of children and their families.
  • Work in collaboration with the Head of Primary in the recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Be part of leading the Performance Management Cycle in liaison with the Head of Primary.
  • Meet with other members of the Primary Leadership Team on a regular basis, consulting with them on matters of curriculum design, the development of school-wide policy manuals, student welfare etc.
  • Provide initial induction, support and assessments for Early Years teachers new to The British School Warsaw.
  • Work in collaboration with the Head of Primary to ensure vertical articulation of the curriculum across The British School.
  • To raise the profile of Early Years within the local community.

2.Learning and Teaching

  • Lead the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the Early Years curriculum in the Foundation Stage.
  • Manage day-to-day cover requirements and liaise with local Supply Teachers.
  • Ensure effective planning, assessment and record keeping.
  • Ensure parents are kept fully informed with settling in visits and transition arrangements.
  • Ensure parents are included in record keeping, monitoring and reviewing the progress of their child.
  • Ensure parents can participate in regular events.
  • Ensure that Early Years meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 of the English National Curriculum.
  • Maintain close liaison with other Nord Anglia Education Schools and engage actively using Nord Anglia University with other Early Years settings.
  • Promote equality of opportunity and positive behaviour management strategies.

3.Continuing Professional Development

  • To provide induction and on-going CPD by way of mentoring, leading presentations and team meetings in conjunction with the Head of Primary.
  • To identify CPD within the Early Years team and then plan and facilitate their professional development in liaison with the Head of Primary and Director of Professional Development.
  • To demonstrate commitment to your own continuing professional development.

5.Marketing and Admissions

  • Support the Marking and Admissions Team in the promotion of The British School Warsaw.
  • Make positive links and effectively promote the facility within the local community.
  • Meet prospective children and parents
  • Represent and positively promote The British School at local and international events as required.

THE SCHOOL:

The British School, Warsaw is an all-age (2 ½ to 18 years), independent, inclusive day school serving the needs of the expatriate and local communities of Warsaw. It was established in 1992 and has grown significantly since then. The current school roll is over 900 of which over 550 pupils are in the Primary section. The school currently has 95 teaching staff and 64 associate staff. The school operates an extensive coaching and induction programme for staff.

We offer a broad range of over 30 different Extra Curricular activities as part of LEAP (Learning and Enrichment Activities Programme) including sporting activities; martial arts; music, art and drama groups; debating and Model United Nations; as well as craft activities. All staff are required to contribute to this programme.

Our school follows the English National Curriculum with an international dimension. Starting from 2½ years old, we offer a first rate educational experience, leading to external examinations at IGCSE level with the University of Cambridge and AQA Examination groups as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme for entry to Higher Education in the UK, USA and over 40 other countries worldwide. We are an Associate of COBIS – the Council of British International Schools and we are the Warsaw designated centre for the Associated Boards of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
