ROLE SUMMARY:

The Head of Economics will work closely with the Head of Business & Economics to strengthen and develop our objectives of delivering a safe, supported, and inclusive learning experience for all our students.


The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Economics at both IGCSE and A Level, together with a clear understanding of online teaching and the professional duties that need to be carried out to ensure that high quality teaching and learning takes place. They will be able to lead part of the subject teams and liaise effectively with The Head of Business & Economics to deliver a high-quality learning experience, as well as encouraging innovation and collaboration within the team.

 

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Head of Business & Economics and play a significant role in formulating the aims and objectives of the subject area, helping to developing the systems, polices and process through which the aims and objectives will be achieved, managing staff and resources to meet the departments and school’s aims and objectives and monitor progress towards achieving these. 


The role will suit an educational leader with an eye for detail, a commitment to delivering the very best for students and families, and a desire to ensure that the school can continue to grow efficiently and sustainably to deliver our goals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


•   Inspire, motivate and provide purposeful subject knowledge for students within the school

•   Be up to date on current research and emerging pedagogy and disseminate this to staff through active engagement in professional development with the learning community

•   Take a leading role in maintaining a positive and inspirational learning climate in the subject specialism and, where appropriate, the integration of your subject learning across the curriculum

•   Support the self-evaluation of the school’s effectiveness and the development of priorities for improvement

•   Assist in maintaining and developing a high-quality school environment and profile and act as a role model by their professional conduct and disposition

•   Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and any class or group of students

•   Provide guidance and advice to students on educational matters

•   Provide or contribute to assessments, reports and references relating to students in a timely manner

•   Participate in meetings and staff CPD opportunities

•   Undertake any other work as specified by their line manager

•   Oversee the quality assurance process for Economics under the guidance of the Head of Business and Economics.

•   Line Manage and undertake the appraisal process with an agreed number of the team.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

•   Be based in the UK.

•   Qualified teacher status

•   Ability to teach Economics across KS4 and KS5.

•   Excellent written and communication skills

•   Knowledge of the correct Safeguarding procedure

•   Knowledge of the education sector in a teaching profession or above

•   Ability to lead a team to achieve set goals.

•   Ability to work well in teams

•   Change and business improvement-focused

•   Able to work effectively in dynamic and changing environments

•   Experience of working in secondary or college sector

•   Experience of working in state or independent school sector

•   Experience with creating resources and the ability to review and enhance our current course delivery

•   Computer literate with the ability to teach online using technology applications.


DESIRABLE

•   Current or previous experience in a middle management leadership role.

•   Current or previous experience in a pastoral role

•   Ability to teach Business at Key Stage 4 and/or Key Stage 5.

•   Ability to teach IB Economics/willingness to undertake IB Economics teacher training.

Inspired Online Schools use state-of-the-art digital technology and operates two established divisions – King's InterHigh, a non-selective fee-paying online secondary school, established in 2005 and a B2B division including Academy 21, serving other educational providers, schools, local authorities and other public bodies.

The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and experience of delivering their subject specialism/s and come from either a state school and/or independent school background. Passionate about ensuring the students are at the centre of learning, the successful candidate will be used to deadlines, have experience of creating effective learning resources and having a key focus on the academic monitoring and progress of the students.

About our Roles

Here at InterHigh and Academy21, our Leaders of Learning (Teacher) contracts do differ from mainstream schools due to the nature of our business and ways of operating. As a Leader of Learning (Teacher) you will be contracted to 42 weeks of the year, up to 38 of these weeks are contact weeks with the students, with the remaining weeks being available for additional activity such as course writing.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. During the school day there are allocated breaks in the morning, lunch time and in the afternoon, with breaks in between each lesson also.

Our lessons are 40 minutes long which ensures the time spent in the classroom is value added and effective. A full time Leader of Learning could be given a timetable with up to 33 lessons, equating to 22 hours of contact time.

As a business and a school, we do not follow the Teachers Mainstream Payscale, we operate in line with our own salary bandings. Further information specifically for each role will be available via the job adverts.
