We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and influential Head of English from September 2024. The successful applicant must have the drive and desire to be consistently outstanding. You will be someone who shares our moral purpose of ensuring that all our young people receive the best education possible in a supportive environment from people who care about them. You will be passionate about your subject and will inspire our students to be so as well.

As a Head of Department, you will join our Middle Leadership Team and take responsibility for standards in English working alongside an Assistant Head Teacher.

The successful candidate must:

  • Someone who is passionate about English and who will inspire our students to be so as well.
  • Perfected skills, in securing outstanding progress and attainment with all groups, particularly at KS3 and KS4.
  • Someone who shares our moral purpose of ensuring that all of our young people receive the best education possible in a supportive environment from people who care about them.
  • Evidence of good to outstanding teaching and results.
  • Excellent leadership skills and competencies.
  • Have a commitment to support our enrichment programme by facilitating co-curricular clubs.

In return we are offering a highly attractive salary, along with the benefits of being part of United Learning, opportunities to share good practice and collaborate with colleagues across every phase of education.

We are an 11-16 United Learning Academy with a roll of 1050 and in every year group we have waiting lists for places.

We believe that it is our job to ensure that education here at Marsden Heights provides our pupils with a silver spoon that life does not give to so many of our pupils.

We also believe that it is our job to ensure that our pupils are happy, safe, and well and to this end, we make no apologies for our unwavering commitment to all aspects of safeguarding.

We recognise that the Marsden Heights staff team are our biggest asset. We work hard to provide high-quality training both whole school and within subject specialisms, and we have a strong commitment to reducing workload to support our staff for their greater wellbeing.

United Learning is a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

United Learning schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. The subject specialists, Group-wide intranet, own curriculum, and online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole. We always appoint on merit, and we are open to discussing flexible working options.

United Learning is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All positions are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and shortlisted candidates will be subject to an online check.

Here at United Learning, we are committed to ensuring our employees feel valued and appreciated. Because we are a group, we can reward you better than any school could alone, and this includes your employee benefits. Here is some information about the benefits available to United Learning.
