Job overview

Head of English, Hoe Valley School - a new Secondary School in Woking, Surrey

If you are the type of school leader that has yearned for the chance to create a school - from scratch - without the burden of a legacy, then you will see this as a tremendous opportunity to join an exciting project.

Working to create a new school will not be like working at most other schools. As Head of English of this new venture, you will have the challenge of:

  • Creating the KS3, KS4 and KS5 curriculum
  • Building a team of outstanding teachers as the school grows
  • Contributing to the school’s development plan
  • Developing exciting enrichment and intervention pathways to enhance the curriculum

Hoe Valley School is opening in September 2015, subject to final approval, and the Governors are looking for a candidate to lead the teaching of English and inspire and challenge the students to achieve their full potential. The school will be a smaller than average secondary school and will open with 120 year 7 students. There is great local demand for the school, and we are already over-subscribed for September.

So, if you are innovative, a team player, a great leader and are driven by a strong sense of purpose to improve the life chances of all young people, then we are the school you are looking for.

We anticipate that the role will initially be offered in the salary range of up to £40k.

Woking is only 26 mins from London Waterloo by train, on the edge of the North Downs. There are also excellent road links to the M25, M3 and A3.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful appointments are subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced check

Closing date: Monday 23rd March 2015.
Interviews will be held in April with a view to the successful candidate starting in August. Express your interest by emailing admin@hoevalleyschool.org to receive an application pack or request an informal conversation.
