Job overview
Heads of House hold key positions within the pastoral system at our Academy. We believe it is extremely important to ensure our students are supported pastorally as well as academically. Several schools have a House system underpinning their pastoral care, but very few have as many as six Houses, a dedicated Head of Year 11 and also a dedicated Head of 6th Form. We believe that a good education depends crucially on the relationships between staff, students and parents/carers.
Our Houses are named after lighthouses along the south coast and are small enough that the Heads of House, each of whom is only on a 50% timetable, have the time to really get to know students and their families and build those important relationships. The Heads of House articulate the Academy's vision to develop citizens who ASPIRE: Ambitious, Self-Confident, Physically Literate, Independent Learners, Resilient and Emotionally Literate.
The key indicator of success in this role is to secure the highest levels of achievement possible for students through challenge and support. You must be passionate about wanting to make a difference for the students in our care.
This post is a permanent, full-time, post.
The Academy has an excellent reputation within the local community with strong support from Governors, Parents, Students and a dedicated and highly motivated team of staff.

About The Bourne Academy
The Bourne Academy
The Bourne Academy is at the heart of the community of East Howe, offering local families an excellent education, new opportunities and facilities that are available to everyone. It aims to raise students’ expectations, build their self-confidence, and teach them appropriate skills that allow them to build a successful career and contribute to society. Our sponsors are Canford School, a leading independent school.
Canford believes that good education depends crucially on the relationships that are built up between staff, students, parents and the other stakeholders. Mutual support, pride, ambition, trust and high expectations all combine to allow impressive educational achievements against a background of respect for each other and an acknowledgement of each other’s contributions.
Key to building these relationships is the pastoral care at the Academy and the links between the Academy, parents and others in the local community, helped by the academy’s central location in East Howe.
