About St Philip Howard Catholic School

St.Philip Howard Catholic School is a mixed 11-16 Voluntary Aided Specialist Sports College at the heart of the local community.  We welcome all students, regardless of background or ability and our aim is to bring the best out of everyone we teach.

We are situated in Glossop, in the High Peak District of Derbyshire.  The school serves the parishes of All Saints (Glossop), St.Charles (Hadfield), Immaculate Conception (Broadbottom), St.Margaret’s (Gamesley) and St.Mary’s (Glossop) and their respective primary schools.

The school is situated on a large site which is well landscaped, with a wide range of outdoor facilities including playing fields for soccer, hockey, cricket and athletics.  Further facilities include an all-weather pitch and hard surfaces which can offer a range of sporting activities.  The school has many specialist facilities including Science laboratories, Design Technology workshops, Art and Design Studio, a Music Suite, a newly built Learning Support area and Religious Education Centre.  Most subject areas have specialist classrooms located close together with access to Information Communication Technology facilities within the classroom and also in our purposely designed Computer Suites.  Our indoor sports currently take place in our Sports Hall and School Hall, which also acts as a centre for assembly, liturgy and dramatic productions.

As part of our aim as a Sports College we have a Community Sports facility, equipped with multi-gym, P.E./Sports Science classroom, disabled access changing facilities, newly refurbished changing rooms and reception.

It is our job to help all students work to the best of their ability and we also want them to enjoy themselves during their time here.  In the prospectus you will see a range of opportunities open to all students.  We encourage everyone to get the best out of their time with us.

We are proud of our achievements to date and want to continue to improve.  Our curriculum will allow all students of whatever ability, every opportunity to reach their potential.  We also work closely with parents to ensure that together, every child has the opportunity to succeed. Our aim is to provide an excellent education for all students and to see them grow into fine young adults.
