Job overview

Opportunity to join an ‘Outstanding’ all-through academy specialising in mathematics and citizenship.

Ark Academy is as a new all-through school based in state-of-the-art accommodation in Brent, set against the backdrop of the iconic Wembley Stadium. The school opened to reception pupils in September 2008 and then to year 7 in September 2010 when the brand new, all-through, academy was founded and the new buildings were completed. Ark Academy is growing year on year with each new intake of students until it eventually has students from 3 to 18 years, and is looking for dedicated teachers to join its current staff team.

In its first Ofsted inspection the school was rated as ‘Outstanding’: “Pupils make outstanding progress in their studies. They greatly enjoy coming to school and attendance is high. Pupils behave well and they respond enthusiastically to the growing team of dedicated staff.” (November 2010)

We are now looking to recruit an outstanding Head of Music to lead and manage a committed staff team and model excellent practice. As well as a range of school based enrichment opportunities, students at Ark Academy are offered a range of opportunities for network-wide music experiences, including a number of high-profile performances.

You will take the lead on designing an engaging and challenging curriculum that inspires children, instilling in them a love for the subject and a desire to learn. As we are opening our sixth form in September 2015, there will be the opportunity to lead and develop the music curriculum at A level.

This role presents a unique opportunity to join a community to staff striving to maintain and build an outstanding all-through comprehensive school. We are engaged in a really exciting venture – our academy is growing year on year and our students will be entering Year 12 in September 2015. With the opening of the sixth form, there will be new development opportunities and CPD for staff.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • be an outstanding music teacher with experience of raising attainment of all pupils in a challenging classroom environment
  • have the ability to engage and inspire pupils
  • be able to work in partnership with parents and other stakeholders
  • be an excellent communicator who enjoys working as part of a team
  • be committed to Ark’s ethos of high expectations and no excuses and the belief that every child can succeed
  • have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of pupils

The successful candidate will be part of an academy that has the highest expectations of pupils and is striving for absolute excellence in its staff, the environment and teaching lessons. By joining the Ark network, they will have access to a range of tailored professional development opportunities within the academy and across the network, including accredited middle and senior leadership development programmes.
