Head of Psychology and Sociology

Full Time, Permanent

Required for September 2024 or January 2025

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced teacher of Psychology and Sociology to lead the teaching of the subjects as the Head of Department. This role would suit a current Head of Department as well as an established teacher who is looking to take the next step in their career.

You must have recent experience of teaching Psychology to A-Level and be prepared to line manage the teaching of the department as well as taking on some teaching of Sociology as required. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, show commitment to self-improvement and to the extracurricular life of the department and that of the school.

Psychology and Sociology are popular A-Level choices at RMS, with multiple sets in both Year 12 and 13. The subjects gain exceptional results with many students going on to take the subjects at degree level, including at Oxford and Cambridge. Psychology & Sociology are based within the Hind House (Sixth Form) section of RMS. There are three members of the department who share dedicated teaching rooms.

The Psychology and Sociology Department at RMS fully supports the aims of the School in striving to create an inspirational environment for all members of the school community to fully realise their potential. We are committed to ensuring that the needs of all individual students are met through engaging and dynamic lessons along with individual pupil support as necessary. The department also plays an active part in the wider life of the school, running extra-curricular clubs, our lecture series and supporting the RMS EDGE program.

RMS is an independent, day and boarding school with a forward-thinking approach to providing exceptional education to over 950 girls aged 2 – 18. Situated in stunning grounds of over 300 acres, with keen students and a large teaching body, RMS is a fabulous environment in which to work and learn. Values and vision

The Royal Masonic School sets very high standards for the academic progress of its pupils. It offers an engaging and vibrant curriculum, with a number of modern teaching facilities to help its pupils reach their full potential.

Aside from academic success, the school also highly values emotional and social intelligence, with girls being encouraged to steer their own learning and become independent and self-motivated.

ISI report

“Sharply focused assessments by experienced staff ensure that the next steps are suitably challenging for every child. A careful balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities enables most children to reach or exceed their expected levels in the seven areas of learning. Daily opportunities for outdoor learning in all of these areas are limited in the classes without immediate access to outside facilities.”
