Job overview

We need the right person for our community, could that be you?

Are you determined, driven and committed providing an exciting curriculum for all learners? Do you want to work with and lead a dynamic and creative staff team?

Worsbrough Bank End has been consistently rated Ofsted ‘good’ for last two inspections. Latest inspection was 9th January 2012 and one of the first under the new framework. The school works closely with Hunningley Primary School and Barnsley Academy, through the shared leadership of the Executive Headteacher, consequently opportunities to work cross-phase are an exciting part of the role.

Since the last inspection every stakeholder has worked hard to strive for an outstanding judgement. To move closer to this goal we need a Head of School that can identify and model great teaching and grow our good teachers into outstanding practitioners.

Thus, the Governing Body of Bank End Primary School is seeking an aspiring Headteacher to work in partnership with the Executive Headteacher as Head of Worsbrough Bank End Primary School.

You should be:

  • A strong teacher, able to model great/best practice in the classroom
  • Determined, driven and committed to equal opportunities for all learners
  • A visionary leader who is committed to finding ways to support all stakeholders to achieve
  • An experienced and successful Deputy Headteacher or Assistant Headteacher with proven impact on school improvement
  • Emotionally intelligent, committed to developing strong working relationships with staff and families
  • Politically aware and able to use positivism to share new ideas and reduce bureaucracy

This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic leader with the vision and passion to improve educational standards and ensure good continuity and progression throughout the primary phase. If you are excited by the opportunity to really make a difference and think that you have the skills and drive needed to succeed, we would be very keen to meet you.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged and can be arranged through Worsbrough Bank End with Linda Higgins on 01226 282549.

General Information

Worsbrough Bank End Primary School services the wider community of Worsbrough and Kendray, an area of mostly social housing located approximately one mile to the east of Barnsley town centre.  Historically a community living with the long term effects of high levels of unemployment, lack of community confidence and low educational attainment, the community is now starting to turn a corner with decreasing levels of crime, investment in social housing and increasing local opportunities for engaging with the communities.

Ethos

This is a very caring and supportive school providing a safe, secure environment.  We are dedicated to raising confidence and self esteem in all our pupils.  We set high expectations for both learning and behaviour and provide appropriate support to achieve those aims.

Our Youngsters are well mannered, polite and respectful and generally behave well.  The whole staff team work together to challenge, motivate and enthuse our children to value education and prepare them for adult life.

Teaching and Learning

All staff are committed to providing high quality teaching and learning, they approach new initiatives with enthusiasm drive and commitment and continually strive to raise standards.

Over the last four years staff have worked hard to develop teaching and learning, which has resulted in the school adopting accelerated learning techniques, mind mapping and social and emotional development.  The curriculum has been changed to meet the needs of our pupils and break down the barriers to learning.  Staff work hard to impact on pupil achievement.

Parents and Community

The school encourages parent and community involvement at all levels and this continues to be an area of development, since parents, although they engage with school, can be reluctant to be involved in their childrens learning.

Work is well underway to address the Every Child Matters agenda and the leadership team is working hard to plan and develop the extended schools agenda in order that the community receive all support mechanisms they require, some of the agencies involved in this development are, Sure Start, Social Services, School Health, The Stairfoot and Worsbrough Locality Well Being Team, YMCA, PCT, LPT and United Learning Trust.
