Job overview

Abbey Multi Academy Trust
Lightcliffe Academy

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious senior leader looking to play a pivotal role in a new Academy at the start of its improvement journey.

Lightcliffe Academy launched in March 2015, part of the Abbey Multi Academy Trust. Located in Halifax, in the Calder Valley, the academy serves 1,500 students between the age of 11 and 18.

The predecessor school was rated “inadequate” by Ofsted in 2014 and was placed into special measures. Improvement was too slow and the young people who attend Lightcliffe Academy deserve more. So, our vision is clear: rapid improvement to take us to “good” within 18 months, and then beyond towards a judgement of “outstanding”.

The building blocks for this change are already in place. As a new academy within the Abbey Multi Academy Trust we are fortunate to be able to draw on the capacity from founder school, Abbey Grange CofE Academy, Leeds. Combining their skills, systems and expertise with the talented staff in Lightcliffe Academy, we now have a powerful formula for improvement.

The challenge for our new Head of School is to lead us on that journey and ensure we are successful.

This is a flexible role, and we’ll look to shape a portfolio that fits your specific skills and expertise. What is fixed though is that you’ll have an overall remit for leading improvements in teaching and learning across Lightcliffe Academy. This is an exciting strategic role.

We’ll ensure you have a fantastic support network around you, so you’ll have the opportunity to make your mark in a professionally supportive, challenging and caring environment. You’ll work directly to, and be coached by, Executive Principal Carol Kitson.

This is a career-defining opportunity for an ambitious leader, probably an existing Deputy Headteacher or Vice Principal looking for a step into a broader leadership post.

Closing date: Monday 13th April 2015.
