Lead an exceptional team in an outstanding college, with a reputation for career development.

NEW College is an outstanding place to work and study. Not only is the college regularly near the top of UK Sixth Form College results tables, we have an enviable reputation for the development of staff careers – it isn’t often you’ll see us advertise externally for senior roles because of the efforts we make to provide real, productive, staff progression routes. The College was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2014.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional leader to lead and manage our School of Humanities encompassing, Geography, Geology, History, Government and Politics and General Studies.  This is a critical post within the newly formed structure of Schools at the College.

The post-holder should be an outstanding teacher as well as an innovative and dynamic leader who will lead in developing and raising achievement across the School.  The successful candidate must be able to teach A Level Geography.

Able to demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for your subject area and the ability to motivate and inspire students and staff, you should have a commitment to raising achievement, raising aspirations and going the extra mile and a demonstrable record of doing so. You might already be number two in your department, or be a department head looking for a wider role, but we’d be equally pleased to hear from experienced and excellent teachers of Humanities looking for career advancement. You may currently be working in a Sixth Form College, or in general Further Education, but we’d be just as pleased to receive good applications from teachers in 11-19 schools in the maintained or the independent sectors, with KS5 experience.

NEW College is easy to get to, linked closely to the main motorway network by the M62 and M1 and commutable from Leeds, Wakefield, Sheffield and much of the North of England. Pontefract is famous for liquorish and our beautiful racecourse – situated near to the college, but it offers a great blend of countryside and community – with the major conurbations of Leeds and Sheffield and their nightlife, culture and shopping very easily accessible.

We offer:

  • Full support from a new, dedicated, inspirational and approachable leadership team;
  • A collegiate approach to best practice, with a consultative yet inclusive style;
  • The opportunity to join a truly Outstanding (OfSTED Grade 1 across the board, under the new CIF) College with a unique and forward-looking structure;
  • Dedicated career development and advice and a platform towards further career success.

If you believe that this fits your skills and abilities, we’d love to hear from you.

Application forms and further details are available from our advisers, ASDTi by visiting www.headofschool.co.uk where you can see videos and photos of the college as well as downloading a full application pack including application form, job description and person specification.  You can also email for a pack to gm@asdti.com or call ASDTi on 01457 851407.  Please do not contact the college directly about the vacancy.

Please note that to apply you will need to complete the forms from ASDTi – applications by CV are not accepted.

Closing date: Tuesday, 28th April 2015.
Interviews to be held as soon as possible thereafter.

NEW COLLEGE has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and expects all staff to share this commitment. All posts are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Clearance through the DBS. NEW College is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

New College Pontefract is an outstanding college, regularly near the top of the UK Sixth Form College results tables and awarded outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in 2014.   Our A Level and BTEC Value Added places us in the top 10% of providers nationally and the large majority of our Advanced Level students proceed to higher education at over 60 different universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. We also provide a small range of Level 2 provision for students wanting to improve their results at that level.

Over the last few years we have invested heavily in new, state-of-the-art teaching blocks and student facilities .  We provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including sports and college production; we want New College to be a vibrant community that students and staff will be keen to join.

The college is outward facing and believes strongly in collaboration, being the lead partner in our teaching school, collaborating with over 30 schools and colleges.  The teaching school creates opportunities for staff to  access a range of CPD, to deliver on CPD events and to support colleagues and departments in other schools/colleges.

Whilst we are unapologetically driven to achieve the best possible outcomes for students, we also operate a very supportive environment in which we give every member of the team the help they need to flourish as an outstanding member of staff.  Having been awarded Leaders in Diversity and Investors in People Gold status, we have been recognised for our ongoing dedication to our people management practices, investing in the development and performance of our staff and creating an inclusive environment in which diversity is celebrated.

As an employer, we strongly believe in recognising and rewarding outstanding performance in all our staff and have an excellent reward and recognition scheme in place which includes financial bonuses and lieu days.

There is a warm and friendly atmosphere that exists throughout the college making it an exciting and enjoyable place to study and work.  We have lots of great benefits to offer staff and we always have plenty going on, whether it be our annual Well-being Day, Christmas party , coffee mornings or social gatherings.

Why not consider joining an outstanding team!
