Job overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for a well-qualified, driven professional, who is an outstanding classroom practitioner, to join our Family of Schools. You will be an inspiring leader with the energy and creativity to lead and motivate a team. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’.

We offer an exciting opportunity to lead a team of 12 teachers and 3 technicians across and age range of 11-18. You will have leadership experience, be determined and driven and have the ability to transform student’s lives. You will work alongside a fantastic team to continue to achieve the highest possible outcomes for students irrespective of their backgrounds or starting points.

The role of Head of Science at Outwood Academy Adwick would be ideal for either an experienced Head of Department or someone looking to make that next step. You will be supported extensively by a team of Science Directors allowing you to strategically lead the department, whilst having the support and advice from the Director team. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to lead a progressive department and be pivotal in shaping their journey to world class. You will be supported within the department by a Lead Teacher, a 2nd in Science and Physics TLR holder.

The department is particularly proud of its inclusive offer to all our science students at Post 16. Our Post-16 have seen record numbers within our A-Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics options and Vocational courses (BTEC Forensics Science, BTEC Applied Human Biology and WJEC Medical Science). Excitingly in September 2023 we embarked on a T-Level route in Heath and are due a considerable remodel of two fantastic spaces for The T level, including a mock-up hospital ward. We are looking forward to the opportunity in developing this pathway for our students. Hence this is a critical appointment for the Academy and is an exciting opportunity for you to move your career onto the next stage.

Our Science department is energetic and forward thinking. We thrive to inspire our students but find so often that they end up inspiring us!! We have a wealth of knowledge in the department and an array of 12 specialist teachers who are always willing to share their knowledge and support each other. At the same time we have 3 technicians who are specialists in their own field and are always willing to support in class with practicals and demonstrations. We are proud of our team, our relationships with each other and our students.

We warmly welcome and encourage potential applicants to visit the Academy. Should you wish to discuss the role further or visit the academy please contact Aalok Kanwar (Regional Director of Science) at a.kanwar@outwood.com.
