Job overview

Thank you for your interest in joining GES as Head of Secondary English and EAL. This is an exciting role that is key to our future. We want to ensure that all of our students have a solid foundation in the English language which enables them to excel in their education. We have combined responsibility for EAL with this role as a number of our students are very strong orally in English but struggle to read and write to the same level.  


Please note. You must have the right to work in Switzerland before applying. The school will not be able to get you a work permit if you do not hold an EU passport or already have the right to work in Switzerland. This means if you are a UK, US, Canadian etc passport holder without a B or C Swiss work permit you should not apply as we cannot consider your application.


We are looking for someone with the key pieces of experience listed below:  

  1. You should have at least 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in an excellent British state or private school,
  2. You have experience of differentiating work for both SEN and EAL students,
  3. You should have experience of teaching a wide variety of students from year 7 through to year 13 and be confident in leading on all aspects of literacy across the school,
  4. You have a track record of achieving excellent GCSE and A Level results,

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

We keep an open mind in the consideration of any applicant who believes they have something special and valuable to contribute.

Essential

  • A love for teaching English
  • Have taught GCSE and A level with at least 3 years of excellent results from the last 5 years
  • At least 5 years experience teaching in a UK curriculum school (State, private or international)
  • The ability to design and articulate an outstanding English curriculum from Year 7 to A level
  • Experience of teaching English to pupils from 11 to 18 years old
  • Working with exam boards for examination entries at GCSE and A level
  • Knowledge of the English National Curriculum
  • English mother-tongue
  • A proactive approach to professional development, striving to improve your own practice
  • A commitment to helping students to develop a broad range of skills and attributes
  • The ability to communicate effectively with pupils, colleagues and parents
  • Flexibility, a sense of humour, and a willingness to contribute to all aspects of school life, including trips, projects, special events and extracurricular clubs
  • Qualified teacher status


Desirable

  • Experience of leading EAL provision in a school.
  • Recent professional development in the new Ofsted or ISI Framework.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring others.


SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary for this role will be shared with short listed applicants. Staff children can attend the school at ⅓ of the tuition fee and our After School Care will be free of charge.
