About The British International Schools Kurdistan, Hawler

The British International School in Kurdistan is a co-educational independent international school located in Erbil, capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. The school has around 250 pupils aged 2-16, with the bulk of these being present in the school’s 4-11 primary section. Classes at the school are taught primarily in English, with the curriculum being supplemented with lessons about Kurdish language and culture. The school follows the English National Curriculum, offering a similar range of subjects to most British schools. Similarly, pupils are organised by year group and key stage. Pupils start at Early Years Foundation Stage, moving into primary and then secondary education. Towards the end of secondary, GCSE and iGCSE examinations are offered, then moving on to A-level qualifications. Despite its small size, the school has a diverse range of subjects for older pupils to choose from, all taught in an English-language setting. This curriculum is well supported by a wide range of extra-curricular activities, as well as a range of modern teaching and recreational facilities.
