Head of Vocational (BTEC) Studies

Kings’ School Al Barsha is seeking a Head of Vocational (BTEC) Studies to join our rapidly expanding school from August 2024. 

Position Overview: As the Head of Vocational Studies, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading the vocational education strategy at Kings. This position requires a dynamic and visionary educator with a strong background in vocational studies and a deep understanding of the British curriculum, particularly the BTEC qualification framework. The successful candidate will lead a team of passionate educators, ensuring the delivery of high-quality vocational education that aligns with the school's mission and prepares students for successful careers. 


Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Relevant academic qualifications and teaching certifications. 
  • Substantial experience in leading vocational education programs, with a strong emphasis on BTEC qualifications. 
  • In-depth knowledge of the British curriculum and examination systems. 
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong organisational and strategic planning abilities. 
  • A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. 


Key Responsibilities: 

Curriculum Development: 

  • Lead the development and enhancement of the BTEC curriculum to ensure it meets the needs of Kings’ students. 
  • Collaborate with the SEND coordinator, pastoral and academic leads, to identify and develop accessible pathways that meet the needs of future cohorts 
  • Integrate innovative teaching methodologies and technologies to enhance the effectiveness of vocational education. 

Program Management: 

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of vocational courses, ensuring they meet the rigorous standards set by examination boards and regulatory bodies. 
  • Monitor and analyse BTEC performance data to drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning outcomes. 
  • Coordinate the standards verification process and ensure it meets the standards required by the relevant exam boards 

Leadership and Team Management: 

  • Provide inspirational leadership to the vocational studies team (BTEC Sport BTEC Hospitality, BTEC Applied Science, BTEC Business), fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture. 
  • Conduct regular professional development sessions for vocational educators to enhance their skills and knowledge. 

Quality Assurance: 

  • Establish and maintain robust quality assurance processes for vocational education, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. 
  • Conduct regular assessments of teaching and learning practices to uphold the Kings’ standards of learning and teaching. 

Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • Collaborate with industry partners to create meaningful work placements, internships, and apprenticeship opportunities for students. 
  • Foster positive relationships with parents, communicating the value of vocational education in preparing students for both higher education and the workforce. 
  • Work closely with the various pastoral teams and the SEND department to ensure the best by every child
