Horizons Academy, the main provider of Alternative Provision in Bexley and part of London South East Academies Trust, requires a dynamic, aspirational and talented Headteacher to start September 2024.

Horizons Academy, rated Good by Ofsted, works as a strategic partner with the Local Authority to develop and support the Alternative Provision system in the Borough.  It supports approximately 120 pupils aged 5 years – 16 years who have been permanently excluded (or are at risk of exclusion) from their mainstream school. The Academy offers both short- and long-term AP placements together with CAMHS medical provision places to meet a diverse range of needs, all on one site. The successfully appointed candidate will be:

A passionate advocate for the best interests of pupils.

Committed to pupil well-being, academic success championing their needs within the school and the wider community.

Hold high aspirations for children and young people.

Committed to making a difference.

Have strong curriculum and leadership experience.

About Horizons Academy Bexley

Horizons provides high quality support to pupils in Key Stages 1–4 who have been permanently excluded (or are at risk of exclusion) from mainstream school.

We focus on early intervention, offering a range of services from short term respite to longer term education for students in KS4. Our expert team works intensively with post-16 pupils to secure destinations whilst providing ongoing support. This helps ensure that all pupils can maintain their educational placements, training programmes and/or employment.

Our aim in Key Stages 1–3 is to re-integrate pupils back into a mainstream or specialist school via our ‘Refocus programme’. We work closely with external agencies and our partner schools to identify the needs of the child and develop the child’s own ability to learn, so that they feel confident about being in the classroom.

We have created an environment and developed a curriculum which supports our pupils to become well rounded citizens and able to productively contribute to the community. We want all our young people to feel confident about their future and in their own ability to live a successful, meaningful life.
