Job overview
Your School of opportunity
Moseley School is a rapidly improving, vibrant, larger- than- average foundation school that stands on a very large site just outside Birmingham’s city centre. The school is an inclusive, fully comprehensive school with over 1381 students on roll – with 140 of these in Sixth Form. Moseley School prides itself on high academic aspirations, a friendly and courteous atmosphere, excellent student welfare and a core belief in the power of education to transform lives.
This is an exciting time for Moseley School’s future development. Over recent years the school has made significant progress – highlighted by the school’s best ever set of GCSE results last year. This is an opportunity to appoint an inspirational new leader who will be able to build on this progress and lead students, staff and the wider community in the next phase of the school’s ongoing development.
The students and staff benefit from excellent facilities, including a new teaching/administration block, which opened in 2013, and a state of the art sports complex that opened earlier this year.
However the heart of the school’s success has been the school’s true commitment to inclusion. The school provides an experience where every student is valued and encouraged to reach or exceed their potential. We are now looking for an inspirational and exceptional Headteacher who can continue that unique ethos whilst bringing with them a fresh challenge and new ideas.
To become our new Headteacher, you will have:
- A proven successful track record of sustained improvement and extensive senior leadership experience;
- The ability to continue to deliver progress and ensure continuing success for all our students;
- Expertise, drive and vision to help embed the exciting plans that are in place for the school’s future development;
- Exceptional leadership skills (at either Headteacher or Deputy level), and a commitment to student achievement and be able to sustain a culture that encourages high expectations amongst all;
- A commitment to high quality teaching and learning and should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached;
- A clear and committed strategic vision, combined with highly effective communication skills that will inspire, motivate and lead all key stakeholders forward for further success.
We are rightly proud of our school but we are also an innovative and forward thinking community with high ambitions for the future of the school. We believe that our strong links with the local community to be of vital importance and we continually seek ways to foster community involvement.
This is a rare and unique opportunity to lead a vibrant, highly ambitious yet caring, learning community, which is committed to delivering the very best education for all students.
If you possess the vision to inspire students, staff and the wider school community, and the leadership skills to support this vision please contact Chris Gartner at Hays Leadership (details below).

We want staff and students to work in an emotionally intelligent school where we acknowledge the fallibility of human beings and recognise the impact our actions and words have on others.
Our pastoral system ensures that each student is cared for and their needs are met through effective partnerships with all our stakeholders, especially parents and carers. All students have opportunities to broaden their social and cultural horizons. The school provides a clear moral framework based on shared values in which the students feel safe and can flourish. Students are encouraged to reflect on their own beliefs, appreciate different views and develop understanding of their own identity and their own self-worth. Moseley School and Sixth Form is a place where staff and students are aware of how personal and political decisions affect the future of the environment and of their responsibility to help to sustain our planet.
We are a caring community where positive personal relationships have a civilising influence. We recognise the potential in everyone and we support and challenge everyone to achieve their potential. We provide opportunities for our students to develop leadership and resilience, to demonstrate initiative and to improve their personal communication skills. All of the School’s diverse communities share the vision and purpose of the school and through developing character and scholarship we are striving to achieve excellence.
