Job overview

Ref: 102864

Can you inspire our staff and pupils to go above and beyond? If so we would like to hear from you!

Derwent Lower School is in the heart of the Central Bedfordshire’s countryside close to the villages of Lower Stondon and Henlow. It has excellent resources, including seven classrooms, large playing fields and three playgrounds as well as 120 motivated pupils – but perhaps most importantly, the school possesses the drive to boost its current ‘Good’ Ofsted rating to ‘Outstanding’.

The school is located near to RAF Henlow and has a crucial role to play in educating and supporting the children of transient military staff as well as children based in the local community.

As Headteacher, you will have the opportunity to lead the school to achieve its ambitions. You will be responsible for managing pupils, staff and premises with the aim of building a secure foundation from which to achieve high standards in all areas of the school’s work. To succeed, you must unite parents, dedicated teachers, and a hands-on governing body, inspiring them to realise your aims and vision. Community spirit is strong so you can expect solid local support, plus the chance to engage with and mentor other members of the area’s teaching community.

This is a lively school that needs vibrant staff. You should be determined, enthusiastic and committed to bringing improvements in all aspects of the school. At the same time, you should be sympathetic to the unique issues that military personnel and their children face. Above all, you’ll be visible and approachable, with the power to influence and inspire your team. If you have experience of being a Head or Senior Leader with a teaching qualification and the ability to plan for the long-term future of the school, we would like to hear from you.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed; please contact the School Office on 01462 812047 to arrange an appointment.

Closing date: Friday 8th May 2015 at 5pm
Shortlisting Date: Monday 11th May 2015
Interview date: Friday 22nd May 2015.

CVs will not be accepted for any posts based in schools.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment.

Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and a criminal records check with the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).
