Job overview

Old Park School, DY52JY

Headteacher

Start date: September 2024

Salary: L25 – L31 (£85146 - £98616). The starting salary will be negotiable dependent upon experience.

Old Park School is an ambitious and popular 4-19 community special school in Dudley, for children and young people who have severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties. These include pupils with complex medical conditions, physical and mobility difficulties and autism. Several of the children have behavioural difficulties arising from their condition and many have communication difficulties. Governors are seeking to appoint a new Headteacher who shares their single-minded commitment to constantly progress and modernise everything the school does so that it continually improves outcomes for the children and young people.

The school has a fantastic reputation locally and beyond and has consistently been judged to be Outstanding by Ofsted, most recently in 2018. In November 2011 the school relocated to a new purpose-built building which was built to accommodate 120 pupils, but there are currently 154 pupils on roll. This school is full and there is an ongoing, increasing demand for places.

The school has the highest aspirations for its students. The needs of many of the pupils require high staffing ratios and the highly trained and devoted staff are focused on recognising and responding to their individual needs and providing them with a relevant and challenging curriculum. The new Headteacher must share this commitment to personalisation, recognise where improvements can be made, have the desire and flexibility to make it happen and work collaboratively to ensure the ongoing success of the school.

If you are an experienced senior leader in a SEND setting, with a track record of sustained improvement, then this is a fantastic opportunity to bring fresh challenge and ideas that will secure further improvement. You must be an inspirational leader committed to high quality teaching and learning and share the school’s child-centred values. You will model these in your daily practice and leadership to inspire and engage the children, parents/carers, staff and the local community. You must also be a confident, positive, compassionate and strong leader who can hold staff to account whilst being accountable yourself. Above all share the school’s relentless focus on providing the very best for all of its children and young people with a vision for its continuing success and future development.
