Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to lead an outstanding rural primary school at the heart of a thriving village community, and the school of choice for parents from surrounding villages.  It is located in the glorious East Riding countryside close to its borders with North Yorkshire and within easy access of York, Selby, Beverley, Leeds and Hull.

Our aim at Bubwith Community Primary is for all children to develop their talents, reach their potential and be safe and happy during their time with us. We are immensely proud of providing a curriculum and learning environment where children thrive and develop a love of learning.

We are looking to recruit a Headteacher who will:

  • be a creative, reflective and inspirational leader who has children’s learning, emotional well-being and happiness at the heart of every decision.
  • have the skills to lead, value, develop and manage a highly effective team with enthusiasm and respect.
  • maintain our culture of high expectations of attainment and progress.
  • provide a role model as an outstanding practitioner, having an expected teaching commitment of up to 0.1 according to the needs of the school.
  • be committed to the further development of a balanced and varied curriculum that sustains a thirst for knowledge and a love of learning.
  • build excellent relationships with children, staff, parents, governors and the wider community.
  • possess the robust monitoring and evaluation skills needed to develop well-focused improvement plans.
  • aspire to our children’s view of a headteacher as someone who will “champion Bubwith School”.

We can offer:

  • a school graded as outstanding where pupils consistently make good or outstanding progress.
  • a “happy and joyful place” (school council) with a caring and inclusive school ethos.
  • pupils who are “a delight. They are confident, inquisitive and polite and show great consideration and care towards others… behaviour in lessons and around school is exemplary.” (Ofsted 2010)
  • a talented team with high expectations of what pupils can achieve and a commitment to inspirational teaching.
  • a very committed and effective governing body who will support your professional development.

Key Challenges:

  • to develop and constantly refine a robust assessment system to contend with ‘life without levels’.
  • to extend extra-curricular provision and enrichment activities.
  • to foster greater involvement of parents / carers and members of the wider community in school life to enhance learning opportunities for all pupils.
