Job overview

Lady Margaret School is seeking to appoint a dynamic Headteacher to build on its strong heritage and lead this Church of England Secondary School into an exciting new chapter in its history. The position arises due to the retirement of our long-serving current Headteacher, Mrs Sally Whyte.

Founded over 95 years ago, Lady Margaret School has a proud and successful heritage in educating girls. As it approaches its centenary, it is also looking to the future: recent conversion to Academy status, expansion of the 6th form and the move to a permanent four forms of entry all point towards new and exciting opportunities.

Our new Headteacher will have the drive, vision and stamina combined with the management skills to lead their staff team to:

  • maintain the school as “outstanding” as it grows
  • ensure every girl, at every level, achieves her full potential and makes excellent progress
  • deliver the high standards of achievement and behaviour which define the unique character and ethos of the school
  • take advantage of external changes in the educational landscape locally and more widely; and
  • have the vision and integrity to lead the school in short and longer term development.

The Headteacher and their staff team will be able to rely upon the support of the Board of Governors and their wide range of educational, management and professional skills in achieving these objectives.

About Lady Margaret School

Lady Margaret School is a Church of England academy for girls aged 11-18 situated on Parsons Green in South West London. Established in September 1917, there are currently 763 girls on roll, of whom 166 are in the Sixth Form and 90 teaching and support staff.

It is an outstandingly successful school in welcoming girls of all academic abilities and ensuring that they achieve their full potential. The school seeks to offer a safe, caring and intellectually stimulating environment supported by a strong programme of extra-curricular activities that enables students to go on to lead fulfilled and enriched lives.

Its success is based on a culture of high expectations and aspirations, excellent standards of teaching and a strong commitment to the Christian ethos. However, it remains an inclusive school and girls from other faiths or those who have no religious beliefs at all are welcomed.

Lady Margaret School is a community of great energy and enthusiasm. It is also a community driven by Christian values, and we place great importance on girls behaving with integrity and kindness.

A majority of students stay on in the Sixth Form that has high academic standards. This enables girls to choose undergraduate courses at universities of their choice, including Oxbridge, Imperial and UCL as well as art and music colleges.

Aims

We want all our students to become confident, curious and compassionate learners.

Our motto is ‘I have a goodly heritage’. Our aim is for every girl to be happy and successful at school, as a strong basis for a happy and successful future.

As a school, we aim to give all our students a ‘goodly heritage’: an exceptional education, a wide range of opportunities and extra-curricular activities, and a chance to be part of and contribute to a strong community.

As a Church of England academy, we are rooted in our Christian faith, and reaching to everyone. We encourage an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and our Christian values underpin how we work together as a community.

We aim to offer a safe, inclusive, caring and intellectually demanding environment to enable all our students to benefit from an outstanding secondary education.

Our Ethos

The ethos of the school is that of a caring and purposeful Christian community. Each member of the community is made aware of the high standards of behaviour and work which are expected. Staff and students are expected to show kind, respectful and tolerant attitudes to others both inside and outside the classroom. The school rules regarding issues such as uniform and homework are enforced and parents are expected to support the school in these areas.

Working for Us

We offer all our staff:

  • A supportive school that has staff Well-being at its core
  • Enthusiastic and engaged students and a culture of high aspirations
  • Excellent career progression opportunities in addition to the high quality CPD which is part of our established systems for staff support and development
  • A comprehensive benefits package including pension, employee assistance programme and Cyclescheme
  • A convenient location served by excellent transport links, close to local amenities and green spaces.

Safeguarding
