The School and the Community

The school is the only primary school within the town and the intake of pupils reflects a complete cross section of the community.

The governing body of the school is likewise representative of the whole community. Its membership is made up as follows:

Two LEA representatives
Four foundation representative (i.e. Parish Church)
Five parent representatives
Three staff representatives including the Head Teacher
Two community governors
One associate governor

The Chair of the Governors is Mrs Cathy Saint.

The school is well supported by its parent body and the active involvement of parents in the school is encouraged and appreciated.

The Friends of Whitchurch Primary School (FOWPS), to which all parents automatically belong, organises a series of fund raising and social activities and the school benefits from their endeavours to the tune of several thousands of pounds annually.

There are two playgroups in the town and the school maintains a close liaison with them to ensure a smooth transition of four year olds into school.

Most pupils transfer at the age of eleven to Testbourne Community School, sited in Whitchurch, which also offers a range of post-school activities for the community at large.

Whitchurch C.E. Primary School values the fact that its foundation in 1846 was inspired by the local parish and close links are still maintained, not just with the parish church, but with all churches in the town. All staff will be expected to promote this strand of school life.
