A very exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic inspirational Head Teacher to lead our extremely successful primary special school through its next phase of development. Due to the retirement of our highly respected Head Teacher, the governors are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated leader who will continue to value and promote partnership working with staff, governors and parents. The Head Teacher will build on our existing strengths and continue to inspire and lead the school to an outstanding and successful future.

Lady Zia Wernher School is a very successful Primary Community Special School educating children between the age of 3 and 11 years. The school is currently in receipt of place funding for 140 FTE children, all of whom have severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex medical needs or autistic spectrum disorder.

The school recognises there are many factors which contribute to the children’s education and supports their progress. Close partnership working with families, health and care providers ensures a holistic approach to address the children’s needs. Additional services are offered to families through the organisation of the school.

The school has a well-established Outreach provision which provides support to mainstream and special school colleagues within Luton and the surrounding counties.

  • demonstrate highly effective leadership skills within a SEN setting and have the ability to inspire and motivate others
  • have a high level of specialist knowledge and a deep understanding of how children and young people with complex needs learn and make good progress
  • be dynamic in their vision for special education with experience of effectively leading and managing change and the ability to think strategically
  • be committed to the development of a progressive curriculum and demand ambitious standards in all aspects of school life
  • have a commitment to high quality standards in learning and teaching
  • have a strong commitment to collaboration and partnership working; and
  • a strong commitment to working positively and pro-actively with, parents, carers and a wide range of professionals and services.
