Gladstone Road Primary School is a thriving and ambitious primary school in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. It is one of the largest in the country with over 800 on roll. Whilst it is a large school it is a warm, caring and inclusive school. The school opened in 2014 from the amalgamation of the neighbouring infant and junior schools. The amalgamation has been well received in the local community and the school is now ready to establish processes and structures which will ensure it can maximise the opportunities available.

At the heart of the school is a commitment to providing an experience which develops the whole child, preparing them for a successful life beyond school. This has been achieved through a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum and varied and extensive enrichment activities delivered by a committed and talented staff who genuinely care about the success and well-being of the young people. Governors are committed to maintaining this culture and recognise it must be delivered in a way that ensures every pupil makes the very best progress at all times.

The Governors are now seeking to appoint a Headteacher who can build on these strong foundations and lead the school to being securely good and ultimately outstanding. If you are an experienced senior leader in a primary setting, with a successful track record of sustained improvement and a determination to maximise the opportunities available then this role offers an excellent opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment. Highly motivated and driven; applicants must understand excellence in primary education, a commitment to high quality teaching and learning and should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached. You will need a ‘can-do’ attitude that can inspire and engage children, staff and the local community.

Being familiar with holding staff accountable and also being accountable for outcomes, the successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of the qualities required for effective school leadership. You must be confident and positive and have the skills to build, lead and inspire effective teams and to be an effective team member. Above all you will share the school’s passion and belief that children, their learning and developing their potential is at the heart of all decisions.
