Job overview

Newtown Campus is a Campus of the Focus Learning group of schools, providing non-selective independent education for 70 children and young people from years 3 to 13. Half of the children are in years 3 to 6 with the rest in years 7 to 13. All of the children are motivated to learn, enthusiastic, well behaved and respectful and the school is supported by a Christian ethos and values. The school is in a beautiful location near to Newtown, Powys, and is only 30 miles from Shrewsbury.

The school is now seeking to appoint a new Headteacher who will lead teaching and learning across the school and work with the Trustees to ensure the school enjoys a vibrant and successful future.

Students are all members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church although none of the teaching staff belong to the Church. Staff are qualified and subject specialists and are committed to ensuring that the children and young people achieve their full potential. The school follows the national curriculum and while it was graded as being good by SIS in 2014 there is a drive and determination shared by the trustees and staff to build on this and to provide a high quality education experience in every sense for all of the children and young people.

As Headteacher you will be committed to providing an experience which develops the whole child, preparing them for a successful life beyond school. You will also ensure this is delivered in a way that ensures every pupil makes the very best progress at all times through a commitment to the highest standards of teaching and learning. This will be achieved through positive leadership, rigour and a ‘can-do’ attitude that inspires and engages children, parents, staff and all members of the school community

If you are an experienced middle or senior education leader, with a successful track record of sustained improvement and a determination to maximise the opportunities available then this role offers an excellent opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment. Highly motivated and driven, applicants must have an in depth knowledge of current best practice and excellence in teaching practice and should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached. Familiar with holding staff accountable and also being accountable for outcomes, the successful candidate will have a good understanding of the qualities required for effective school leadership.

You must be confident and positive and have the skills to build, lead and inspire effective teams and to be an effective team member. You will not be expected to believe the teachings of the Church, but will be expected to respect them. The trustees recognise and value continued professional development and as such training opportunities will be made available throughout your career including support and preparation for future career progression and you will have support from colleagues within the network of Focus schools nationally.

Closing date – 0900, 11th May
Interviews – 18th and 19th May

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the DBS

About OneSchool Global UK Newtown Campus

We are a small school on the border of Wales; a truly scenic and rural school.

Our school is not just about academic success but also about ensuring we develop and nurture students to become good people who have an awareness of the wider global context we live and work.

Our aim is to ensure that all students leaving the school have a set of qualifications that will open doors for them in the future and are prepared for the world of work and life in the future.

Our students are our biggest asset. They are willing to learn, open to new challenges, resilient, and their behaviour for learning is excellent. Students are taught national curriculum subjects and are offered extra-curricular opportunities as well.

The Campus has great facilities, cross-curricular ICT suite, a Learning Centre and individual laptops for students in Years 7-13. In addition to this, students benefit from a volleyball court, tennis courts and a football field. The campus has a dedicated science lab and excellent Primary facilities.

Focus Learning Trust was established as a registered charity in 2003 for the advancement of education, primarily providing leadership and support to its network of 23 UK, non-selective, independent schools which are registered as schools with a religious character, following the national curriculum.

We are part of the OneSchool Global network – one of the most extensive and progressive networks of schools and educational support services in the world. With schools in 20 countries worldwide, our 9000 students are benefiting from the amazing results of global collaboration and cutting-edge educational methods.
