The governors, pupils and staff of Wilson Primary School are looking for a highly motivated Headteacher, who will be a strong leader with a passion for teaching and learning, and have the drive to continue to raise standards.

We seek a Headteacher who will focus on educating every child to enable them to achieve to the best of their potential, and who has the ability to challenge, motivate, support and plan in a changing educational environment.

You will be joining us at a key time for our school community, when we:

  • are looking to build on significant success at Wilson Primary School, taking the school from good to outstanding;
  • have completed a significant school building programme that started in 2013;
  • are in the final stages of expanding into a two-form entry school.

You will be a person who:

  • demonstrates strong strategic leadership and management skills to drive the school forward with vision, creativity and humour;
  • motivates and inspires pupils and staff to achieve to the best of their ability;
  • builds on the school's positive, inclusive ethos and community involvement;
  • develops team spirit through effective delegation and collaborative working, adapting to the needs of a diverse community;
  • creates an environment of high expectations for children, staff and the wider school community.

About Wilson Primary School

Wilson Primary School is a non-denominational, co-educational comprehensive in Reading, Berkshire. The school was opened in 1904, and is located on Wilson Road. All classes are taught in the main building, except for a Reception based in a former nurse block which stands adjacent. There is a before school breakfast club, and an after school activities Magpies Club. The school is larger than average with 415 children on the roll, between the ages of 3-11.

Wilson Primary follows the mantra that every child matters. A holistic approach is taken to education, valuing academic, personal and social development. The school also wishes to create a positive climate for all, with students supporting one another and contributing to outstanding outcomes through community cohesion. 

Wilson Primary staff are also adept at encouraging gifted students who are especially receptive to academic subjects on the curriculum, and those who are highly talented in art, music, or sport.

“Reading is promoted well throughout all subjects. Books are attractively displayed in the library. Classroom names are taken from popular authors. As a result pupils thoroughly enjoy reading a range of books regularly. They have good comprehension skills and are able to talk about their books in great detail.”
