Job overview

Group 3 NOR 327

Following the retirement of our Head Teacher, the governors are seeking to appoint an experienced, inspirational and effective leader. This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving school in Shrewsbury, which plays a key role within the local Teaching School Alliance.

Designated an outstanding school in 2008 (and not inspected since then), our new Head Teacher will need to maintain our reputation for excellence and build on our reputation amongst partner schools. We are looking for a Head Teacher who has the vision, the drive and the resilience to build on our successes and ensure we are regarded as a centre of excellence. We are currently a key partner within a local school alliance and committed to supporting schools which need our help.

The successful candidate will be supported by a professional and supportive Governing Body, and a highly committed staff team. They will be outward looking, apply best practice and manage change effectively. They must have strong communication skills, the ability to listen to stakeholders and respond to their needs while maintaining the vision and direction of the school.

We are looking for someone who:

  • has proven leadership skills within the primary phase;
  • is excited by the potential of our school and the educational landscape in our area;
  • is committed to excellence in teaching and learning and continued staff development;
  • has highly effective organisational, managerial, motivational and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead the delivery of the curriculum, ensuring it is accessible to all;
  • has the desire to encourage all children to achieve their full potential, through the setting of high expectations for achievement and behaviour;
  • has the skills to consolidate a strong team involving staff, parents, governors, children and the wider community;
  • is committed to the Christian ethos and values of our school.

We can offer:

  • a dedicated team of staff and governors who share a desire to improve young people's opportunities, with a focus on the ‘whole child’;
  • a chance to shape the future of education within and beyond our school;
  • enthusiastic, well behaved and engaging children who demonstrate a love of learning;
  • a school community where everyone and every achievement is valued;
  • the opportunity to continue your own professional development – and that of your staff – in a lively school setting;
  • a school that is underpinned by a strong Christian ethos and values.

We welcome applications from experienced Head Teachers, or experienced Senior Leaders, who want to influence our development. Although we are currently ‘Outstanding’ we fully acknowledge the challenges of maintaining this status and building on it: we cannot rest on our laurels.

We would like to invite you to visit our school to experience for yourself what a remarkable place St Giles’ CE Primary School is and to meet members staff, and the children.

For further information, an application pack or to arrange a school visit please email hyde.c@st-giles.shropshire.sch.uk or phone 01743 356579.

The closing date for applications is midday 6 July 2015.
Interviews are planned for Monday 13 July.

St Giles CE Primary School, Shrewsbury is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All applicants will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check before appointment is confirmed.
