Job overview

The Charter School Educational Trust (The Trust) is seeking to appoint an inspirational and effective leader for The Charter School East Dulwich. Our brand new co-educational, non-selective, non-faith, inclusive 11-19 secondary school will open in September 2016 with its first cohort of year 7 students.

The post is to start from September 2015 in time for the recruitment of the first cohort and for you to be fully involved with the setup of the school.

The Charter School East Dulwich will deliver the highest quality education to young people in its immediate, diverse community. East Dulwich and South Camberwell, is an area with a proven level of need for additional secondary provision from 2016 onwards. Through the 'outstanding' Charter School, itself founded in 2000 as a brand new community secondary school, the Trust has served an equally diverse community, with a similar profile to that which will be served by the neighbouring Charter School East Dulwich. Our ambition is to create and sustain a sister school to the Charter School and to ensure that the new Charter School East Dulwich will, in time, be amongst the highest achieving secondary schools in the country, securing outstanding progress and attainment for all pupils, regardless of their starting points. The Head Teachers of our two schools will be equals, as we do not have an Executive Head or Chief Executive.

You will be an exceptional leader and strategic thinker, with a proven track record of successful leadership and management in a secondary school and will:

  • Have the determination and entrepreneurialism needed to start a school from scratch, building on and applying the Trust's values and vision, leading to an inspirational new school, with its own flavour and character within the Charter family.
  • Have high expectations of staff and pupils and the vision to build a strong staff team and cohesive student body.
  • Inspire and motivate all students and staff to develop in a well-disciplined and harmonious environment.
  • Enable all students to achieve their potential during their time at the school, ensuring that they leave school as mature, rounded, resilient individuals, ready to take their places as active citizens in the wider world.
  • Be committed to the delivery of the highest standard of teaching and learning across the school, including the professional development of our staff.

This is a remarkable opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the Trust at a very exciting time. The Charter School East Dulwich will be an outstanding, exhilarating and innovative school that produces exceptional attainment for its learners and will make a significant contribution to the lives and opportunities of its families.

To apply, please visit the vacancies section of the Charter School website www.charter.southwark.sch.uk to download an application pack and job description. Alternatively, please contact Wendy Andrews, HR Manager, email: WAndrews@charter.southwark.sch.uk or telephone 020 7346 6608.

Closing date: Midday on 17th April 2015
Interview dates: 22nd and 23rd April 2015

Please note CVs are not accepted.

No agencies please.

The Charter School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check will be sought for the successful candidate.

About The Charter School East Dulwich

The Charter School East Dulwich exists to inspire young people from across its diverse local community to develop the character and expertise they need to succeed in adult life - personally, economically and in good citizens. We teach our students to be curious, creative, courageous and caring. They will leave us happy in themselves, excited about their future and ambitious to achieve.

The Charter School East Dulwich provides a holistic education that allows all of our students to develop the character and expertise they need to succeed in life - personally, economically and as good citizens.

All students study at least to GCSE level. The School curriculum builds methodically on the foundations laid in primary school. It is coherently sequenced to provide all students with the opportunity to progress to the next stage of their education, be it academic, professional or vocational.

The curriculum is made ‘desirably difficult’ for all students. Every individual receives the right combination of support and challenge to achieve their personal best, irrespective of background or personal circumstance. The School makes generous provision for a range of enrichment activities through which students further develop the individual interests and aptitudes that allow them to flourish.

The curriculum explicitly encourages students to have confidence in themselves, care for each other and their environment, be curious about the world and have the courage and creativity to change it for the better.
