This is an exciting opportunity for a strong and inspirational leader to build on the strengths of our successful and highly regarded rural primary school in Suffolk.

We are looking for a forward thinking and enthusiastic Headteacher who will be able to demonstrate:

  • a clear vision in maintaining and developing our school in partnership with staff, governors and parents
  • the ability to continuously raise educational standards across the school
  • strong strategic planning, financial and people management skills
  • the ability to think strategically and show instinctive sound judgement, especially under pressure
  • a commitment to meeting the needs of each child and a desire to make a difference to their lives.

You will have a proven track record of delivering high standards of teaching and learning together with the ability to raise aspirations, expectations and attainment that enables our staff and children to achieve their full potential. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills that inspire trust and confidence, together with the ability to develop effective relationships between the school and parents / carers and increase engagement in their children's learning.

West Row is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational primary school situated near Mildenhall, Suffolk. It is a state community school set up to serve both the West Row Village area and the wider community. The school will provide 270 places for pupils aged 4-11.

The school building is late Victorian in design; it lies 16 miles from Bury St Edmunds and 25 miles from Cambridge.

Values and Vision

West Row’s motto is “Encourage one another and build each other up”. This supportive attitude sums up life at the school. Staff aim to create an atmosphere in which children can celebrate their achievements at the same time as showing strong self-discipline. Students are also taught to live together and show mutual respect, recognising the contribution and value of different traditions and cultures. The curriculum is designed to meet pupils' needs as well as helping them deliver work to a high standard.

School resources include a vegetable garden and secret garden, as well as a wildlife area and large playing field.
