Do you have the vision to make Monkwearmouth Academy one of the top performing schools in the North East?

Monkwearmouth Academy is a vibrant, recently Ofsted rated ‘Good’ school in Sunderland with nearly 900 students aged 11-16 on roll. The school has been part of Tyne Coast Academy Trust (TCAT) since 2019 and comprises of 3 secondary schools (including a UTC) and 2 primary schools. Our Trust delegates to its Headteachers the responsibilities for their children and young people’s education and pastoral care, whilst also providing a collaborative and developmental relationship with other leaders across the Trust. TCAT has a strong board, an experienced, supportive executive team, an exciting partnership with The Gorse Academies Trust, and access to high-quality CPD. This is certainly an exciting time to join Monkwearmouth Academy and Tyne Coast Academy Trust.

At Monkwearmouth Academy we put our young people at the heart of everything we do, providing a dynamic and nurturing experience for all students. The school has been on a rapid improvement journey, which was recognised during the most recent Ofsted. Through high-quality teaching and learning, we have the highest of aspirations for every member of the school community. There is a commitment to ensure that our ‘Believe, Achieve, Succeed’ motto becomes a way of life for all learners, and to ensure that this exceptional community has a school to be proud of.

We are looking for an inspirational, passionate, and collaborative Headteacher to lead Monkwearmouth Academy on the next phase of its journey. To be successful, you’ll be an experienced senior secondary leader with an excellent track record. You’ll have a good understanding of what makes a truly great school and how to take a school on the path to ‘Outstanding’. You will be dedicated to achieving excellence and raising standards of achievement for all. You’ll need to demonstrate the ability to engage, inspire and prioritise excellent relationships with the students, staff, and community we are so proud to serve. As Headteacher, you will place students first in every decision you make, drive an ambitious education agenda with school improvement at its core, and confidently build on our successes so far.

There is no pre-determined idea about where you might currently be working – you may be a talented Headteacher looking for a new challenge, but you could also be an experienced Deputy Headteacher looking for your first Headteacher post. What is most important is that you are a tenacious and empathetic leader, with relentlessly high expectations, a passion for our school community, and a well-honed talent for inspiring students and staff to give their absolute best. Above all, you will be committed to making a positive difference every day, with a clear focus on driving forward school improvement and opportunities for our students.

If this sounds like you, please get in touch to discuss this exciting role in more detail. In return, we can offer you fantastic support for the next stage in your career and a wealth of development opportunities within the Tyne Coast Academy Trust family. For an informal and confidential conversation, please contact Propelo on 01273 222 877 or visit tcat.our-careers.co.uk for more information on how to apply.
