Job overview

Isambard is a young, modern, maintained secondary school operating on a campus of four schools (two primary, two secondary-two mainstream, two special). Its governing body is now looking for its second Headteacher, our first having retired after taking the school from a green field site to a fully functioning community. Not without its challenges, Isambard represents a superb opportunity for an adventurous, bold candidate who is either already a successful Headteacher or has executed an acting Headteacher role for at least one whole term.

With the support of an enthusiastic Senior Leadership Team, committed staff and an active governing body the successful candidate will have the opportunity to blend the meeting of short term needs with the building and executing of a strategy that will see the school dominate the local education landscape. As a school we have a vision focused on the care and challenge of students, the delivering of a creative curriculum, the need to give to the community and the use of all these elements to help deliver no end of possibilities for each student’s future career.

All appointments will be subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS clearance, and proof of the Right to Work in the UK (this will be required at the time of Interview).

Isambard Community School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Please see the Headteacher recruitment pack for more details including how to apply.

Values and Vision

Isambard Community aims to make sure every child feels important and a part of the school. It hopes to encourage students to be life-long learners and feel honoured to be a member of the establishment. The school values extra-curricular activities. This includes taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the school’s enrichment activities, which run from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. The aim is to help every student reach their full potential. Students are also able to work on the in-house radio facility. It started in 2010 after being established by the Heart radio station.

Ofsted report

Pupils are provided with a range of experiences to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. For example, they have participated in a project to understand the Holocaust and recently took part in the European Day of Languages. Pupils also engage enthusiastically in projects for charities, such as supporting the local food bank. Pupils are able to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Staff identify individuals’ level of skill which they match to activities which helps pupils’ development. However, this is not pupils’ normal experience in a wide range of subjects.”
