An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered General Nurse (RGN) to join the nursing team at Uppingham School as a Bank Nurse.

Uppingham School offers a vibrant, supportive and stimulating environment in which to work. Founded in 1584 it is, today, one of Britain’s leading co-educational independent boarding schools.

The Health Centre is integral to the school community and provides a comprehensive range of health services for all pupils and a first aid service for all staff, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, during term time. The school nursing team provide high quality, clinically effective health care, actively promote healthy lifestyles and support the whole school community in maintaining high levels of pastoral care for its pupils. The Health Centre is committed to providing ongoing professional education and development in line with NMC (2018) requirements.

The Health Centre requires a nurse on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during term time therefore shift patterns may include days, nights and/or weekends with some additional contracted hours during the school closure period. Shift patterns are agreed with the Lead Nurse.  

The successful candidates will have relevant post registration experience which may include School Nursing, Practice Nursing, Emergency Department or Walk-in-Centre Nursing.

Uppingham School is a mixed, Church of England independent secondary school with sixth form and boarding, located in Leicestershire. The secondary school, situated in Uppingham has approximately 791 students on record.

Uppingham School was founded in 1584, originally as a school for boys. In 1975 girls were admitted, and it became fully co-educational as of 2001. The majority of students attending the secondary school are boarders.

Work is generally presented neatly and pupils’ note-taking is effective. They develop good numeracy skills and their capacity to think critically is notable. Creative abilities are well developed and their exploration of ideas is particularly marked in their enrichment activities. Pupils’ study habits are good. In the lessons observed, pupils worked very well with each other, and also worked well independently. They enjoy their work and this stems in part from the good-natured atmosphere in lessons. Pupils use information and communications technology (ICT) proficiently.”
