Job overview

We are seeking a Junior Higher Education Counsellor to join an experienced and dedicated team, providing advice and guidance to our students and their parents, as they apply to universities around the world. The successful candidate will be open-minded and willing to learn, fluent in English with the ability and confidence to address large audiences of students, parents and fellow professionals in line with the role specifications below. This role is instrumental to the continued development and implementation of the College's mission, values, policies and procedures.


Role Specifications

Work within the Careers and Higher Education (HE) Team to:

  • Support university applications, confirm grades, upload transcripts and reference letters using a variety of platforms 
  • Support UCAS applications, check the suitability of reference, enter predicted grades from Unifrog
  • Support the development of the HE/careers programme
  • Support US/Canadian/HK applications, upload supporting documents to online platforms
  • Attend Higher Education/career events in and outside school which may take place after school hours to keep information/resources updated
  • Participate in 1:1 HE sessions with students from Year 10 onwards


Work with the Higher Education Counsellors to:

  • Produce HE materials e.g. school profiles, leaflets
  • Work with students on the full process of Higher Education application up to and including results day and beyond, under the mentorship of HE Counsellors
  • Help prepare statistical/HE reports
  • Organise, coordinate and publish the schedule of university visits/talks throughout the academic year
  • Organise and oversee annual university fairs
  • Liaise with teachers regarding academic references
  • Prepare and check transcripts/references for university applications
  • Deal with parents, students and university enquiries
  • Help prepare HE newsletters.

  • Excellent negotiation, collaboration and problem-solving skills with a solution-focused attitude
  • Effective listening skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, record-keeping and timely follow-up


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Fluency in English is essential. Bachelor’s Degree is desirable
  • Working knowledge of HE systems, institutions and application procedures in at least one country which is a major destination for students in the school, with the ability and willingness to learn about others
  • High level of literacy dealing with references, recommendations, essays and personal statements
  • High ICT technical literacy, including VLEs, Google Suite, and online application systems
