About Bonn International School e.V.

Bonn International School (BIS) is a young, dynamic school with fully authorised International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes from pre- Kindergarten (EL3) to grade 12. We presently serve 675 students of 60 nationalities, with student numbers having grown by 40% in the past three years.    Bonn is a city with increasing numbers of international companies, academic and research institutions and an expanding United Nations centre supported by its very attractive and easily accessible location in the heart of Europe.

The school is a dynamic, self-funding non-profit organisation, with a supportive Board of Trustees committed to excellence but also to growth and innovation. Over the years the recruitment of staff has reflected this same spirit of optimism and excitement about educational development.     BIS is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Association of German International Schools (AGIS).     The school was successfully accredited by CIS and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in 2007.

With support from the city, state, federal governments & corporations, in 2005 BIS completed a major building project, which brought all sections of the school into one state-of-the-art integrated facility.   The Early Learning Centre, housed in its own purpose-built wing, is based upon the principles of the Reggio Emilia programme, which are being successfully fused into the requirements of the PYP.    The present school comprises three separate wings housing the Early Learning Centre, the Primary School and the Secondary School, in addition to special facilities for sciences and technology, the arts and performance, media, physical education and a cafeteria.

BIS is currently in the next phase of its building project which will nearly double the size of the present premises and allow the school to serve the growing international community in Bonn.    The new building will include another gym, performing arts space, and additional classrooms and offices.     The entire school complex has been designed with a contemporary outlook and a desire to create learning spaces that support the IB curriculum model; bring children together in shared environments; and provide opportunities for parents to meet.
