Job overview

Do you share our vision for inclusive education? Can you make a real difference?

West St Leonards Primary Academy opened in November 2013 in Partnership with the Hastings Academy Trust, the main sponsor being the University of Brighton. We are a popular and successful school with an inclusive ethos.

We have special provision for physical disabilities and moderate learning needs on our site and we are looking to recruit an Inclusion Leader to support  children with SEND and those with SEN in the mainstream Academy.

We have a large number of support staff, as well as many outside agencies, who work together with class teachers to provide high quality support for children’s learning.  The facility pupils are taught by specialists for part of the day and integrate in the afternoon.

This is a non-class based role; the role includes inclusion of the mainstream pupils as well as leading the facility.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • An excellent communicator and team member with the ability to work closely with pupils, parents, staff and outside agencies
  • Passionate about SEND
  • Committed to providing the best learning opportunities for all the children in our facility and the mainstream SEN children
  • Has the ability to develop children’s well-being and self-esteem
  • Has achieved National SEN accreditation or looking to attain this in the future
  • Has specific training, knowledge of safeguarding or willing to develop this

We can offer you:

  • A commitment to your professional development
  • The opportunity to work with our highly skilled staff team and great children
  • A friendly team based environment
  • A ‘good’ school which is aiming for ‘outstanding’
  • Support and training in the new curriculum requirement and our Talk for Writing approach

About us

The Trust began life as a federation of two Secondary Academies, The Hastings Academy and The St Leonards Academy, which opened their doors to students in September 2011. These are now innovative new schools with 21st century facilities, skilled staff and exciting new ways of teaching to ensure every student achieves their very best. Both our secondary academies have recently been inspected by Ofsted and judged to be Good (the second highest category).

As an organisation, the Trust has recently expanded to include seven local primary Academies. Dudley Infant Academy, West St Leonards Primary Academy and The Baird Primary Academy joined the Trust during the 2013-14 year, whilst Churchwood Primary Academy, Robsack Wood Primary Academy and Hollington Primary Academy joined the Trust in September 2014. Silverdale Primary Academy most recently joined in February 2015 and we are delighted to welcome them to our family of schools.

The University of Brighton is our lead sponsor, providing expertise in education and a wealth of experience alongside a passion for working with the communities of Hastings and St Leonards. The University has a long-standing investment in Hastings and St Leonards, where it has an expanding campus and student body.

In partnership with Sussex Coast College Hastings, the University is committed to developing programmes that ensure access to further and higher education for our students and their families.

The Trust’s co-sponsors are BT, one of the world’s leading communication providers, and East Sussex County Council. They provide expertise and resources which bring enormous benefit to our students and staff. BT, in particular, affords a link between the academies and the business community by creating opportunities for older students to learn social and business skills essential in the world of work.
