Job Description

You will be required to work 6 hours per week (8.00-10.00: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday), 38 weeks per year.

Under the direction of the Head Teacher the School Janitor may encompass normal administrative processes together with carrying out a range of duties as outlined for the Janitor post.

You will ensure that school premises are available, maintained and fit for purpose, the security of the premises and its contents including keyholder responsibilities; responding to fire and burglar alarms and patrolling the premises as appropriate. You will ensure Health and Safety and Fire Safety responsibilities are met. You must be capable of building positive relations with staff and students, have the ability to work as part of a team as well as the ability to work on your own initiative.

You must have basic skills in literacy and numeracy and experience of basic handy work/DIY.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
