Job overview

The Rowans School is a popular and successful co-educational pre-prep for children between the ages of 3 and 7, situated in Wimbledon.

The School opened in 1936 and prides itself on ensuring a nurturing start to school life by providing a broad and balanced curriculum within a stimulating, creative, happy, caring and respectful environment. Our priority is the well-being and happiness of each child and we aim to inspire each child to achieve their full potential and to prepare them to meet the challenges that they will experience at the next stage of their education with confidence and high self-esteem. The curriculum is designed to build strong academic foundations and has strong 7+ results. The Rowans is particularly successful in matching every child’s academic standard, aptitude and character to the best suitable school at 7+, ensuring that each child continues to thrive in the next stage of their education.

From Autumn Term 2024, The Rowans School, part of The Shrewsbury House School Trust, is seeking to appoint an experienced KS1 Class Teacher to teach a class of children and ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment and reporting meet the needs of each individual child, covering their learning and social needs. The teacher will offer pastoral care and support, providing the children with a secure environment in which they can learn. They should have the ability to build good relationships with children, parents and colleagues and show effective communication skills. Patience, a sense of humour and a willingness to engage in ongoing professional learning are useful attributes. The successful applicant should have experience of the London Day School application process for ages 7+. The successful candidate will be required to make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school, including attending whole-school annual events which may not fall in designated work hours. All teachers at The Rowans School have responsibility for leading a curriculum area.

Job descriptions, information on the school and an application form can be found on the School’s external website (www.rowans.org.uk) by clicking on About Us, Vacancies. Founded in 1936 The Rowans is an Independent Co-educational Preparatory School for children aged 3-7 yrs old.

The school is in a large private house in Drax Avenue, a quiet road off Copse Hill, Wimbledon. There is supervised parking available and a drop-off facility for older children. There is a very large well equipped playground in the gardens, together with a Techotile surfaced area within the grounds, comprising either: four short tennis courts; or six-a-side football; or netball / uni-hockey pitches. The Nursery has its own self-contained garden and play area.

The Rowans provides an enabling environment so that these vital early years of education will be fun, at times challenging, whilst bringing out the best in every individual child, thus preparing each child for future learning.
