KS3 & 4 Maths Teacher – MPS/UPS + 1 SEN (£30,000 - £46,525 + £2,539)

FULL-TIME POSITION – TEACHERS PAY AND CONDITIONS

COMMENCMENT: SEPTEMBER 2024

The Bridge School is a Pupil Referral Unit for KS3 & KS4 students. The School requires an outstanding and committed Teacher who can deliver Maths to students who are either having difficulty accessing high school education, or whom are permanently excluded. Your will be teaching primarily to KS4 students, but with a smaller element of KS3 teaching and/or aspects of the wider curriculum. Our students exhibit social, emotional and mental health issues which present through a range of behaviours. We therefore require a professional who is competent and skilled in managing and modifying behaviour, as well as being an enthusiastic and effective teaching practitioner.

Your core responsibilities will be to ensure all youngsters develop strong numeracy and Maths skills, in line with their abilities and potential, through effective sequencing and bespoke, coherent medium term planning. You will support and develop the wider staff team, Alternative Providers and Tutors, so that numeracy is enthusiastically embedded across the curriculum. As a Teacher at The Bridge School you will be committed to making a tangible difference to the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable children, supporting them to overcome the barriers they face within education, and providing them with outcomes they can use beyond their placement with us.

The delivery of quality remote teaching and online learning will be a core skill you will be able to present in increasing measures. Some of our students engage best through an online offer, and many are in need of improving their IT confidence and application. Additionally, the willingness, should it be required, to teach one other subject would be beneficial.

As a successful applicant you will have skills to engage and develop students, who may have struggled with numeracy, and whom have low confidence and engagement with learning. You will have the ability to identify specific strengths or barriers to learning, implementing innovative and creative strategies to remove these barriers, and invigorate participation. For students who have the competency to achieve accreditation up to GCSE level, high teacher expectations and subject knowledge are required in order for potential to be reached. For many other students, the ability to development and embed Foundation Level/Functional Skills will be fundamental to the role. The majority of our students have significant gaps in education, with limited time to catch up. It is therefore imperative you have the ability to connect with students quickly and find a way to motivate, engage them, and create progress.

You will have the skills and personality to develop strong, professional and sustainable relationships with students, being positive, calm, resilient, consistent and reliable. Your individual and group management and communication skills will be outstanding. This specific post has KS4 Tutor Group responsibilities, delivering PSHE/Citizenship and the daily development of student’s social, emotional and mental health needs. You will work closely Teaching Assistants and Key Workers in order to support individual students.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop within a small but vibrant school setting, and to have a significant impact on the life outcomes of the young people in our care. We are a small, tight and proud team who welcome passion, commitment, and a desire to overcome and see change. If you think you are this person, please contact the Head Teacher, Nigel Hunt. He will be happy to speak to you in detail about the post.

You should note that, if successful you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check or Enhanced DBS Check for Regulated Activity (formerly Criminal Records Bureau). Further information about DBS checks can be found at www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check

The Council and its schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff, workers and volunteers to share this commitment.
