Yewlands Academy is at an exciting stage of its development as a member of the outstanding Wakefield City Academies Trust. CEO of the trust Alan Yellup has led Wakefield City Academy to three consecutive outstanding Ofsted inspections reports (most recently in March 2013); Susan Cousin was appointed as new Principal of Yewlands in 2014 and led the academy to its best ever GCSE results .

We have embarked on our journey to outstanding at Yewlands and seek to appoint talented and committed colleagues to play an active role in helping us quickly achieve this objective.

Our facilities are second to none and we are improving rapidly in all areas of our work. You will be joining a cohesive and committed staff who work in an ethos of openness and trust.

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading developments in teaching and learning in our improving English team. Results improved strongly in 2014 with 68% of students achieving A*-C. The new Lead Teacher: English will work closely with the Head of Department to ensure continued improvement by inspiring outstanding teaching in English.

The improvements required will come from continuing to develop the practice of the English team, ensuring that lessons are always good and often outstanding. The post holder will be expected to have a real presence in the curriculum area, supporting colleagues to eradicate any low level disruption in their lessons by planning and delivering engaging lessons. The progress of students will need to be tracked very closely with high quality interventions in place to support any who fall behind.

Yewlands Academy is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary school without sixth form based in Grenoside, Sheffield.  A relatively small secondary academy, Yewlands provides 900 places to secondary students.
