Job overview

Lead Teacher of Media Studies with English

We are seeking an inspirational and enthusiastic teacher responsible for teaching two subjects: Media Studies at Key Stage 4 and English, at least up to Key Stage 3.

Starting in September 2024, this is a wonderful opportunity to join a supportive school with an appetite to develop a new area of the Key Stage 4 curriculum as well as providing excellent teaching of English to Key Stage 3 pupils. Media Studies has been an exciting recent addition to our Key Stage 4 curriculum; pupil recruitment to the subject has been high. As a specialist Media Studies teacher you will lead this subject to secure and embed it into the school's curriculum offer. Co-curricular activities are an important part of our independent school provision and there are opportunities to run Media or English lunch-time and/or after school clubs, as well as leading school trips to inspire and support pupil learning.

As a Lead Teacher of Media Studies with English you must

  • Have a recognised teaching qualification: PGCE or equivalent (QTS)
  • Have a degree in Media or English or a related subject
  • Demonstrate commitment to high academic standards
  • Demonstrate the ability to build strong working relationships with pupils, other professionals and parents
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a range of audiences, such as pupils, colleagues and parents
  • Possess excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions, policies and procedures
  • Have the right to work in the UK.

Applying to be our Lead Teacher of Media Studies with English

If you are interested in becoming our Lead Teacher of Media Studies with English you are advised to apply early as we reserve the right to close this vacancy earlier than the specified deadline, if a suitable candidate is found.

Full details of the role, benefits and how to apply are available using this link https://cvminder.com/24037wyd

The closing date for applications is 5 April 2024. Interviews are currently planned for 11/12 April 2024.

Please note that tours of the school form part of the interview for short-listed candidates. Also, references will be obtained prior to interview.

We welcome applications from all sectors of the community as we aspire to attract staff who reflect the social and cultural diversity of our pupil intake. We consider the most important factors to be the right skills, abilities and aptitude for the role which will ultimately improve the well-being and education of the pupils. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Leicester Grammar School Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and this is reflected in our recruitment procedures.

LGS Stoneygate, is a co-educational day school for pupils from the age of 4 to 16, that in May 2016 became a member of the Leicester Grammar School Trust’s family of schools. This move began an exciting new phase in the life of a school that was originally founded in 1856 and that has always been one of Leicestershire’s most respected and well-regarded Prep Schools.

The School offers small class sizes, committed teachers and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. It educates children holistically, developing each individual pupil to their maximum potential. It welcomes pupils with a broad range of abilities and aims to give each child a well-rounded education blending notable academic achievement with excellence in each child’s individually-discovered talents. It supports the learning of every child through its broad academic curriculum and by virtue of the provision of a wide range of co-curricular activities. The School aims to engage, enthuse and inspire children in a happy, safe and caring environment.

Pupils are able to enter the school at any stage up to the start of Year 10. It is anticipated that those who join us prior to Year 7 will, in the vast majority of cases, remain until at least age 13. More will join in Year 7, at age 11, with the clear intention to continue to age 16.

Some families may still prefer to follow the prep school route, and children will be very well prepared for transfer to senior school at age 13 where this is deemed most appropriate. Those who believe that their child is best suited to the Leicester Grammar School curriculum will have the opportunity to enter them for an assessment in the Trinity Term of Year 7. Where appropriate, this test will confirm a place for transfer into Year 9 at LGS just over a year later. Pupils who wish to apply for any other senior schools or boarding schools at age 13 will sit their tests in Year 8 and will be assured thorough preparation.

LGS Stoneygate offers pupils the opportunity to stay for GCSE study. There is a new curriculum for Year 10 and 11 students: Alongside the five core GCSEs, there will be four option choices from a mixture of GCSEs and highly respected more vocational (Level 2 GCSE-equivalent) courses.

Leicester Grammar School Trust is an educational trust overseeing three schools: Leicester Grammar School, Leicester Grammar Junior School and LGS Stoneygate. The Trust was awarded the TES Independent Schools’ Governing Body of the Year award in 2015.
