Hammersmith Academy, a state-of-the-art Academy specialising in Creative & Digital Media and IT, is a truly comprehensive, fair-banded Academy where staff “are committed to getting the best outcomes for students”. We were judged to be a good school with many outstanding features by Ofsted in February 2013. We have since travelled even further and are confident of achieving outstanding results, an outstanding learning experience for our students and an outstanding judgment in our next Ofsted.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding music teacher to lead our Music department which is fully equipped with a Mac computer suite, a wide range of musical equipment and 5 practise rooms. The department offers peripatetic music lessons and students wish to be eventually entered in Grade Music exams.

You must display:

  • a music or music related degree
  • Knowledge and experience of planning and delivering GCSE (or overseas equivalent) music
  • a track record in the moderation of GCSE (or overseas equivalent) composition coursework (internal or external)
  • knowledge and experience of preparing students to compose using Sibelius and other music technology through to A levels (or overseas equivalent)
  • IT experience with Macs and other Apple equipment such as ipod touch and ipad
  • the ability to play the piano to a good standard in order to accompany pupils
  • experience in putting on multi ensemble school recital nights
  • a high level of conducting skills in a range of ensembles such as concert bands, Jazz and Stage Band ensembles, Marching band, drum line, choirs and pop and rock bands.

Ideally, you could also:

  • play piano as your first instrument
  • have experience of organising peripatetic instrumental lessons
  • have previous experience of long term planning to ensure the needs of a GCSE specification (or overseas equivalent) are met
  • demonstrate the ability to carry out day-to-day maintenance of a range of musical equipment (e.g. guitar re-stringing, tuning of guitars/ukuleles, simple drum kit repairs).
