Job overview

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Learning Mentor to complement the work of our staff in addressing the needs of children who require support to overcome barriers to learning. 

The candidate must be:

  • Committed to learning more about pupils with special needs and how best to support them
  • Support pupils with SEMH (social & emotional mental health)

  • Have excellent communication skills

You will work together with the Senior Learning Mentor, to identify together with pupils who would benefit from learning mentor support and discuss concerns with teachers and phase Leaders

Organising a programme of activities outside the classroom that support the educational and social development of identified pupils, including play therapy. 

Ensuring the transition from one phase to another is smooth and that pupils receive continuity of support where appropriate. This could involve liaison with pre-school providers and secondary schools.

Keir Hardie Primary School is a co-educational community school for children aged 3-11, located in a regeneration area of Canning Town, Newnham, London. 
The school serves a diverse community in an area of high deprivation. Over 90% of the children on roll are from ethnic minority groups. The pupil roll, including nursery, is 450.   

Keir Hardie Primary School aims to promote community cohesion through teaching, learning and the curriculum. The school places great emphasis on the importance of a creative curriculum to empower pupils to become independent, open minded, resilient individuals. Its curriculum is enriched through frequent educational visits, visitors and the expertise of a range of arts specialists.
