Job overview

We know that getting transition right is a key ingredient in ensuring that students have a successful secondary school experience. As a primary and secondary school which are in the same trust, and right next to each other, this is something which we are particularly passionate about.

Learning mentor - transition is a new role, specifically designed to ensure that the children who go from Y6 at MCPA to Y7 at MCA are enabled to thrive. As such, the post-holder will work across both schools, spending the second half of the year at Manchester Communication Primary Academy (MCPA) working with Y6, moving with the children to Manchester Communication Academy (MCA) as they transition into Y7.

The post-holder will then move back to MCPA after February half term, to pick up the next cohort in the second half of Y6.

The aim of this role is to provide pastoral and learning support to Y6 as they approach their SATs; help to prepare them for the expectations and routines of Y7; then provide enhanced support in Y7 by being a familiar adult with established parent relationships who is well positioned to advocate for the needs of the children.

If you think you have the skill set to develop brilliant relationships with our pupils and families, prepare them for secondary school and help them settle into new routines and ways of working, then we want to hear from you.

If I’m still interested, what should I do next?

We think that applying for a new role should always be seen as a 2-way process, you have to be right for us, but the school also has to be right for you. So if you are interested in applying, please do feel free to get in touch to discuss the role.

Manchester Communication Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure for a Regulated Activity via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
