Hurst Lodge School is seeking a full-time Learning Support Teacher qualified to Level 7, with the ability to support students with dyslexia and dyscalculia. The successful candidate will join our dedicated Learning Support team, providing tailored intervention and support to students with diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and group support to students with dyslexia and dyscalculia, enabling them to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students' learning strengths and areas for development, using a range of diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Develop and implement personalized learning plans and strategies to address students' specific learning needs, in collaboration with teachers and parents.
  • Deliver targeted intervention sessions focusing on literacy, numeracy, study skills, and other areas as required, using evidence-based approaches and resources.
  • Monitor students' progress regularly and adjust support strategies as needed, ensuring continuous improvement and positive outcomes.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction and provide ongoing support and guidance on effective teaching strategies for students with learning difficulties.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Learning Support team and external specialists to develop and implement whole-school initiatives and support systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, interventions, and assessments, in compliance with school policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
  • Stay updated on current research, best practices, and legislative requirements related to special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to inform teaching practice and professional development.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Level 7 qualification in Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCo) or equivalent, with specific training and expertise in supporting students with dyslexia and dyscalculia.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience working as a Learning Support Teacher or SENCo in a school setting, with a strong understanding of inclusive practices and differentiation strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, and deliver effective support and intervention for students with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia and dyscalculia.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and collaborate with colleagues to enhance practice and provision for students with SEND.
