The Post

The School of GCSEs, English and Maths City College Norwich is seeking to appoint well-qualified and effective GCSE Maths teachers.

The School currently teaches GCSE Maths to approximately 800 students. The successful applicant will share the teaching of these courses with other teachers. 

Teaching groups typically have approximately 20 students and the majority have three hours of classes per week.

This post is permanent and will start between Monday 17th August and Tuesday 1st September 2015 inclusive, by agreement between the College and successful applicant.  It is advertised as full time but applications are also welcome from experienced and newly qualified teachers who would prefer to work part time and share the post with a colleague.

A full job description and person specification are provided in separate documents.  Selection will be the basis of a ‘best fit’ with the relevant person specification and applications are welcome from teachers who feel they meet most but not necessarily all of the criteria.

The School of GCSEs, English and Maths (GEM)

The School of GEM is a new department to the college for 2014-2015 and is looking to firmly establish in 2015. The School teaches GCSEs, English and Maths Functional Skills and English for Speakers of other languages (ESOL).

Key features of the Centre include:

  • Our full time GCSE provision offering up to 10 GCSEs. We deliver to 200 students who can take up to 5 GCSEs.
  • Our part time adult provision offers, English, Maths, Science GCSE, Functional Skills English and Maths and ESOL to approximately 500 students. 
  • We work very closely with teachers across the College to ensure successful English and Maths for those studying vocational qualifications. 
  • A specialist tutorial team working closely with students, teachers and parents and providing support for progression to further and higher education, employment and training
  • Dedicated, specialist accommodation, including subject base rooms
  • Access to the College’s wide range of specialist services such as its library, additional learning support and personal and financial support
  • A friendly and informal working environment

City College Norwich

The School of GCSEs, English and Maths is part of City College Norwich, a large college of further and higher education, and is based on the College’s main campus close to Norwich city centre.

The College offers a wide range of academic and vocational courses across and is an Associate College of the University of East Anglia (UEA).

In March 2013, Ofsted rated the College as Good (grade 2), with main strengths including:

  • The college is making a significant contribution to the wider strategic development of education and training in the city and across Norfolk, in close partnership with the local community, schools and employers. This is helping to strengthen progression routes, raise the quality of provision and improve value for money.
