We are one of the UK’s leading, internationally recognised educational centres, ranked first in the North West by the Complete University Guide 2014/15. Our primary and secondary initial teacher education provision is rated Ofsted ‘outstanding’. We host a number of centres of excellence in knowledge exchange, including: Early Years and Childhood Studies; the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination; and STEM Education North West. Our research institute is ranked in the UK top 10. Around 4,000 students study with us in Manchester and Cheshire and we work in partnership with over 1,500 schools, colleges and other organisations.

The Faculty of Education has a strong national reputation for its work across the Education disciplines and professions. It is widely recognised for its innovative commercial projects and is judged 'internationally excellent' in educational research. The Faculty is the major provider of initial teacher education and training and continuing professional development in the North West. Ofsted rated our primary and secondary initial teacher training provision 'outstanding' in their last inspection (May 2011). We were ranked 1st in the North West for the second consecutive year and 15th out of 79 UK educational centres by the Complete University Guide 2013/14.

The Faculty is a vibrant, creative and exciting place to work with over 1800 students training as teachers each year via University-based undergraduate and postgraduate routes and via School Direct. Close to 1000 students are enrolled on continuing professional development programmes. The Faculty has a supportive management team that encourages fresh ideas. 2014 saw our relocation to a new, state of the art building at the Birley Campus, Manchester, as well as maintaining our existing campus base in Cheshire.

Role

The Primary ITT team comprises a highly professional group who are responsible for key contributions to the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Faculty as well as to our CPD programmes. They have well-established links with primary schools, other learning settings, other Faculties and other agencies outside the University, which serve to provide our students with stimulating and innovative opportunities.
